Resurfacing of Northgate
to cause traffic delays
Gabbi Chee
Managing Editor
Traffic along Northgate
Drive in front of the
University of Dallas
will be reduced to
one lane in each direction
as the City of Irving works to
resurface the road. The project
officially began Monday, and
once half the street is closed,
the situation will remain that
way until at least April 2012,
said Patrick Daly, associate vice
president for administration.
"The part that's being
reconstructed is from Tom
Braniff out to Carl Road," said
Daly. "If you're familiar with
the part of Northgate from Carl
Road to Rochelle, you know
that it's nice - two lanes of
concrete, there's a bike lane,
there are sidewalks. That's
exactly what will be in front of
the school."

phases. In the first phase, all
of the asphalt will be removed
from the north side of the
road, the side closest to UD
property. New water lines and
storm drains will be installed
before the road is laid down
again. Daly said that part of the
project will be completed by
late October or early November.
In the second phase, traffic
will be rerouted to the northern
half of the road - which will
at that point feature new
pavement, a bike lane and a
sidewalk - so that the southern

Praxis stops recruiting students
Jose Healy
Contributing Writer
The Praxis program
will not admit new
applicants for next
year due to lack of
funding, according to Dr.
Nancy Schreiber, director of
the program.
Praxis offers an opportunity
for incoming juniors to obtain
work experience by doing
three internships in different
companies during the last two
years of their education.
The program also
provides weekly coaching
by professionals to the
participants as well as
opportunities for networking
and career development, said
Schreiber.
Since its inception in 2007,
31 students have participated,
and a total of 27 organizations
have hosted Praxis interns.
All these students have
received weekly coaching from
executives and entrepreneurs,
and the majority of students
"received rave reviews
from both their internship
supervisors and coaches," said
Schreiber.
Praxis, however, stopped
recruiting this year since the
principal donor of the program,
UDalumus Eugene Fitzgibbons,
did not extend further funding
to keep the program running.
The funds for the program
"cover operational costs:
stipends for the coaches,
financial resources for the
marketing of the program and
any other infrastructure of the
program — it's a job to find
internships for the program,"
said Schreiber.
Fitzgibbons, now an
entrepreneur, graduated from
UD with a degree in physics
in 1965. In 2006, Fitzgibbons
