J There Peace
By RITH
Hare you ever happened to notice
how In some houses there Is an al-
most palpable Atmosphere nf peace
and harmony while In other homea
and dlacord are Just as ob-
lotialy In the air.
A friend of
mine recently
gave up a room In
a lovely house for
a muoh leas at.

I knew there was
no financial rea-
son for the change
and rather won

and my room waa
thoroughly comfortable. I couldn't
aak anything better In a material way
but I wasn't happy there and now
I've come away I'll tell you why. I
didn't like the atmoaphere. The peo-
ple in that house didn't love each
other; there waa always discord be-
tween them. Of course they were too
well bred to actually quarrel before
me. and they were always kind and
obliging as far aa I was concerned
hut I couldn't help feeling the lack
of peace and harmony In the atmos-
phere and It troubled me. Where I
am now an atmosphere of peace Is
Just as evident. The people speak to

When I sse children being brought
op In a house where there Is an at-
mosphere of discord and unrest I om
aorry for them no matter how many
luxuries they may have.
I read the other day of r middle
aged man and woman who have Just
hesn divorced. They had a grown
son snd the wife told the court that
although she and her husband de-
cided when that son wss a baby that
they were Incompatible they had
made up their minds to bury their
dissensions and live together In har-
mony until he was grown for his sake.
And they hnd done this so success-
fully that neither he nor nny of their
friends had the least Idea that thore
was any lack of hnrmony.
Wasn't that a tremendous and beau-
tiful thing to do for a child?
An atmosphere of perfect peace Is a
wonderful and beautiful thing. The

where peace abides will have a bleared
childhood even If he lacks many luxu-
ries. Is there pyuce In your home?

Horse Sense in Man
KELSON with a plesaed look on bis faos. waa listening to tha gay
chatter of Hebe.
From a distance Joan of Arc walehod them gravely.
"Men are strmngo combination aren't they?" she said at last
to Quw-n Elizabeth who Was struggling with Esparanta
"Tag. But they are Interesting." returnad tha famous bachelor maid.
"Man think woman ar a strange compound and not easily understood;
but I have) found man quite as Interesting g study because their motives
and actions are so obvloua when all tha time the man think they are
being so subtle and profound "
"Yea." agreed Joss. "Men go around spouting about their horse
sense as if it ware a rare and valuable commodity; when everybody
knows g horse) ran be driven ground by some dimpled girl whose bleeps
wouldn't frighten a mouse That's tha sense a horse has and that's
about the brand some man have).'' Her glance rested upon Nfilaon.
"That's true' agreed Elisabeth bar eyes following Joan's glance and
resting upon England's famous admiral "I wonder why It is."
"I bars boon told." said Joan though I do not know If It Is true
for I have never studied natural history that a horse's eye) ma unifies
things and so a human being seems a giant "
"Well a man ta vary gpt to magnify a girl until be tblnks bar a god-
dess." reflected Elisabeth "Perhaps that's the explanation Fur the
way some men 1st girl land them around shows thsrs must be some-
thing wrong with their vision or their brain. It's a pity."
"It's tbe greater pity that a woman Isn't what a man believes bar to
be. Jost think wbat a power she'd be. If she didn't fall down!"
"Bat It's hardly fair." objected Elisabeth thinking of her temper
"for a man to put a woman on a pedestal and expect of her nil the vir-
tuosi be Imagines) she haa."
"If I elevating." responded Joan holding to her point. "It abe d live
op to tbe Ida people have made of bor. think of her influence! If 1 bad
proven false to the truat reposed In me. bow many would bave had their
faun ghntteeaad."
"Tag. But tbe opposition made It warm for you." objected Elisabeth
"I'd rather ba os s pedajetal after I'm dead than while I'm living. It's
easier and yon have more fan" wlU a glance at Hebe. And she re-
lumed to bar Espsranla. for ska waa anxious for a universal language
