railroad. The stipulation read that "the Texas and Pacific tracks should cross the Houston
& Texas Central tracks within one mile of Browder Springs. " No one in Austin had ever

For ten years I served as a docent at Old City Park. For several years I
interpreted the buildings twice a month. After a time I volunteered on weekends only.
Eventually, I became a craft docent and demonstrated some type of handwork such as
tatting, lace darning, or wheat weaving during Candlelight in the Park or other special
events during the year.
When I read Aunt Harriet's account of living in the Gano cabin, it took me back
to the history of that special place. The living history of that time came to life for me
again.
I want to give special thanks to Hal Simon and Michael Hazel at Old City Park
for their assistance with this research.
