RuiioliI till a niin! 'Twits a skull,
Oneo <jf ethereal spirit full;
This narrow coll wits I.lftj's retreat;
'litis space was Thought's mysterious sent.
What beauteous visions fill'il tills spot*
What dreams of pleasure ioiir forgot?
Xorhoix!, nor love, nor joy, nor fear,
lltivc left one trace of. record here!
Beneath this mouldering canopy
oiicc shone the bright and busy eye.
Hut start not t the dismal void:
If social love tliat eye employed;
Jf with no lawless tire it gleamed.
But through the dew of kindness beamed,
That eye shall be forever bright
When stars and suns are sunk In Night.
Within this hollow cavern hung
The ready and tuneful tongue,
if falsehood's honey it disdained,
And where It could not praise was chain'd;
if bold in virtue's cause it spoke!
Yet gentle concord never broke!
This silent tongue shall plead for thee
When time unveils Eternity.
Say, did these Angers delve the milicV
Or with Its envied rubles shine,
To hew the rock, or wear the gem,
Can little now avail to them.
But if the page of Truth they sought,
Or comfort to the mourner brought,
These hands a richer meed can claim
Than all that wait ou wealth or fame.
Avail It whether flare or shod.
These feet the path of Duty trod ?
If from the bowers of case they lied.
To seek aliilction's humble shed;
if grandeur's guilty bribe tliey spurn'd.
And home to Virtue's cot returned,
These feet with angels' wings shall vie,
And tread the palace of the sky.
I have seen the bloom on beauty's check
I.Ike bright Vermillion glow,
lu the happy days of joyous youth,
When the heart was free from woe.
I I have seen the sweet and lovely (lower
Spring fVom (lie dewy ground
To beautify the morning hour,
And shed its sweetness around;
But when the burning sun arose,
It dropped its tender head.
And ere the evening's shadows fell.
The flower was dead.
Fair checks that like the roses bloom'd
>Iay grow so wail and pale,
And fade away like summer flowers
Before the Autumn gale.
Though fondest hearts are severed here,
And ties are snapped in twain,
In lands of Joy audlove they shall
l iiitcd be again.
"Pat," Said Judge Tiff to his neigh-

you would have been a long timo in

Thought engenders thought. Placo
one idea on paper, another will fol-
low it nnd still another, until you
have written a page. You cannot
fathom your mind. There isa well
of though t there, which has no bot-
tom ; the inoro you ¿lraw from it the
more clear and fruitful it will be.

An attorney, about to furnish a bill
of costs, was requested by his client,
a baker, "to make it as light as lie
could !" "Ah !" replied the attorney,
"that's what you may say to your
foreman, but it it's not the way I
make my bread."

A Maine farmer gives his method of
treating baulky horses as follows :—
"Let mo inform humano men and
hostlers, and all who hold the rein,*
that Uto way to cure baulky horses is
to lake them from the carriage and
whirl them rapidly round till thoy
aro giddy. It requires two inon to
accomplish this, one at tho horse's
tail. Hon't let him step out. Hold
him to the smallest possible circle.—
One dose will often cure him ; two
doses arc final with tho worst horse
that ever refused to stir."
