brought iuto market, four hundred thousand acres of the public

now in operation has been materially altered and improved and

WHEREAS, Lent M. Hitchcock jr and Stephen Vansickle
did on the 13th day of January A D 1843, file their pro-
cesa oflibel against the sloop called the Washington her tackle,
apparel and lurnitiire, and Simeon Bradly now is or late was
master of said sloop, and against all persons lawfully intervening
for their interest in said sloop Washington* tf c, in a cause of con
tract,civil and m'aratime, and thereupon said libellants alledge
and propound!as follows—to wit:
"First, that the said Sloop Washington, of the burthen of a
bout eighteen tons is a foreign vessel, and is now owned and was
at the time hereinafter mentioned, owned by some persons resi-
ding in {Ke United Statesof America, who are to the libellants un-
known, but who as they are informed and believe, reside in the
state of Louisiana, and that the said sloop belongs to the Port of

Thia new stock of goods being laid in under such advantageous
circumstances , might hear all the charges of transit, duty Ac, and
still successfully compete with those supped in Paris or Lou-
don-Suoh is the intention ol Ihe Subscribers, and to. effect it,they
will base their prices on so low a scale of profit, as to secure this
benefit and a succession of it to buyer and seller, but to carry this

Second, that the said sloop on or about the 23dday of Qcloberj
1841, and at divers limes, since that time up to the 6th day of July
1842, being 111 the port of Galveston, in the county and district
aforesaid, within ilie ebb and flow of the tide and within the Ad-
miralty and marrttime Jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, and
standing in,need of repairs, provisions and other necessaries in
order ^o rpiider her sea worthy and competent for voyages, the
libellants did, nt the reauést of the said Simoon Bradley master,
a* aforesaid, at the said port of Galveston, furnish the said sloop
with provisions and o titer necessaries, consisting ol ship stores
and .rigging, the particulars of which supplies provisions and ne-
cessaries aforesaid, will fully Bppear, with the dates at which they
were delivered in the account hereto annexeu marked "A" a<-
mounting in the who'e to the turn of one hundred and sixty-five
25-100 dollars, of which sum onehundred and twenty six 62-100
dollars has been paid, leaving a balance due the libellantrofthir*
ty eight 63.100° dollars, and that the said sloop could not with
safety have safely proceeded to sea without said supplies above
named, and that the said supplies were furnished ou the credit of
the said sloop as well as of the owners and master thereoñ Thai
the libellants have repeatedly requested the said master of said
sloop to pay them the said sum of thirty eight 63-100 dolían,
tho balance due as aforesaid, but that the laid master haa not paid
tbe same, and still utterly refuses so to do. and that (he 6um last
above named now remains entirely unpaid to the damage of the
libellants the full sum of fifty dollars: That all and singular the
premisesare true, Ac.
Allcdging that the said sloop is now within the Jurisdiction of
this Court praying that process in due form of law according to
the course of Courts of Admiralty may issue againBt said Sloop
Washington, her tackle apparel and furniture, that all persons
having or pretending to have any right title or interest in said
loop, Ac, may be cited to appear and answer Ac, which allega-
gations are sworn to by. Stephen Vansickle.
You are therefore hereby commanded to cite and admonish all
personshaviM or pretending to have any light title or claim to
said Sloop* Washington, her tackle apparel and furniture, by
serving Simeon Bradley, who now is. or kilo was master of said
sloop, with a true copy of this Monition, and by publishing the
same in one ofthe public newspapers, printed and published in
the city and County of Galveston, fifteen days previous to the
