It Is well known hero that
Hon. A. M. Taylor of lied lilvcr coun-

It Is Improbable that two Stale olllcers
will be selected from tho saino county
Mr. Swain lias doubtless concluded to
risk his chances for Governor as a citi-
zen of Travis county without limitation.
He has never cast a vote In this county
and It Is reasonable to suppose If defeated

that he will return to Clarksvllle. ir
Colonel Swain Is not a bona lido eltlren

made to capture her but owing to her
elasticity and power which Is said to be
almost supernatural and the many nat-
ural and convenient hiding places which
the locality affords she has so fur man-

thought she Is an escape from the

It Is said City Marshal I.eo contem-

SMALL POX SCARE.
The following Is the olllcial report of
the County Physician Dr. Chew rela-
Ivo to tho small pox outbreak on the
lleloles:
ton. ( . I. Wiirzhiifh County Julia!
Sin Aniii.mii September 0. Sir: In
ilMcrvnncu ti lour Instructions. I went
jeslerday to Investigate tho reported
outbreak of small pox on tho Ilelotes
creek. 1 learned tout the disease had
appeared on Blx or seven ranches. In tin
nren of 10 miles but inv time was sn
short Hint I could only visit thrco places
lint 1 saw two cases or confluent small
pox. as bad ns any case I saw hero In the
epiuemto or I3i8. in these -u cases 1 saw
the disease In every ltngcfrom tho pus-
tular to dlsguatnatlon.
In my Investigations there was ono
Interesting fact displayed and Hint Is
none (if the persons who hnvo taken the
disease had ever been vaccinated and
persons who havo been vaccinated iro
among the sick with perfect immunity.
The question arises what shall bo done
to prevent the spread of this disease and
keep it out or this city.
'1 he Mexican has no dread of small-pox
nnd freely visits bouses where tliedls-
esso prevails anu uy mat means it Is
liable to spread over tho country. 1
would respectfully suggest as the only
remeuy to stamp ino disease out Is bv
thorough vaccination which will have
to he uono uy tne county authorities for
most of the people aro unable to pay for
vaccination and the city authorities
should establish a thorough quarantine
against the section whero this disease Is
prevailing. Ucspcctfully yours
T. It. Ciikw.
Judge Noonan has Issued Instructions
to the Sherlll not to summon witnesses
from tho section where tho disease Is
prevalent. Notices have been posted
out all over the vicinity telling tho In-
habitants not to go Into town. Ti pre-
vent them from entering the city and
to strictly enforce the quarantine. It
would be advisable forelther the county
or city to place an olllrer on watch
along the line of road to prevent the
residents on the lleloles breaking the
quarantine
Railroad Progress.
On Saturday connection wns made on
tho San Antonio & Aransas Pass railroad
with the I. & (3. N. The track Is now
complete from the Sunset to the I. & U.
N. across Hint part of tho city Including
tho bridge across the San Pedro and
material can be recolvetl from both
roads. This wlllgreatly lacllltuto work.
Truck laying on the main lino began
this morning and In a day or two It will
bo laid across the San Antonio river nnd
continued nt the rate of n mile a day
until the Salado Is reached where there
will be n 130-foot span bridge. This
will delay the workmen for a few days
and then the track will be pushed on to
the Calaveras which Is the most (1 1111-
oult stream to cross on tho entire line
and will detain the advance ror a week
or two at least.
There is n large gang or men nt work
at the depot grounds and things are be-
ginning to tako shape. The foundations
of many of the buildings are already In
and In a few dais the line passenger de
pot win uo unuer wny and will be an
ornament to any city. The Lkiiit gave
a general description of this building In
Saturday's issue. Yesterday there wero
many people among whom werp some
or the most prominent citizens visiting
the grounds ot this new road and gen-
eral surprise and satisfaction was ex-
pressed nt the appearunco of things.
