TO THE TEX AH 1'ItESS ASSOCIATION.
Oh I friends assembled hure to-day
With one uccord wo como to pay
Tribute to freedom's shrlnu ;
Her vast dominions siircailluir o'er
Our continent from shorn to shoro
Shall echo yours and mine.
From humble earth of omerald huo
Uiirluliu far to doptlis of blue
In prulrlo zophyr rlirhs :
From wild Atlantic's rush and roar.
From Paclllo's peaceful shore
The irratoful sonir shall rise.
From where the great lakes guard our
line
From forests of the sobbing pine
And from tho Western plain
And we in this our Southern home
(Wlioro still tho llnxoilu? in uses roam)
Will uUrtnt the Kind rofrnln.
Ours is the land unbound by creeds.
Hero each man's honors n re bis deeds.
Our Nation's press are men

Our Nation's aristocracy

A sigh for those departed
Wtilio trusting thosA who live.
Some of our nation's brightost
Have pussed from us tor aye
I line initialed with tho many
Adown death's dlsmul way.
We'll pay the grateful tribute
To those we'd fain recall
To him who sought life's mystery
To those who'd love for all.
And dearest best of poets
Within each heart there Ilea
A chord of tender sadness
Which to bis name icplics.
Though soon tho tear will vanish
Unoti vacant plnco bo tilled;
Our fond henrls will not banish
The truths that each Instilled.
Dear Southland long In mourulug
For her beloved lost cause
Will Kladly hall the dawning
And In her sorrow pautu.
We'll take from hor tho willow
And decked wl' llowers gay
To literature fmetM'
We'll wed our land to-day.
In this her star of glory
We're men who'll make Uornamo

Her greatest and hur best
'TIs yours the Lono Star honor
Aud pride of the Northwest.
Hut knights who bear our banner
Ilowuro your fearttil power;
'TIs uoblo wheu used rightly;
Ye hold n glorious dower.
Ambition wields a sceptre
'TIs power makes men mad ;
'Till lguornnce has vanished
Your pride should make you sad.
Jealous KUard It lest you lliul
Aggrandizement too great;
Lest you should hold the gold-god

Dallas has no musical society but tho ladies
worked hard especially Mrs. J. Schneider and
Mr. Sanger driving up recruits wherever to
bo found und when every other argument
fulled they would urge that the occasion was

would always bring them to rehearsal und

How many people lemember the time when

Yet it was bat the other day so to speak that
a respectable merchant would have been
thought out of his mind had he appeared in
hit counting home wearing; even a pair of
moustaches much more a full beard. England
and the United States wrre clean shaven at to
the mouth and chin down to the outbreak of
the European revolutions of 1848. A con-
temporary tells us that the first bearded mem-
ber of the House of Commons was George
Frederick Muntz the representative of Bir-
mingham He was regarded as very eccentric
rather crazy and a great curiosity altogether.
The Grst bearded peer was the duke ol New-
castle Loid Aberdeen's war minister whose
beard was a consequence of his visit to the
seat of war in the Crimea. He sat for his
portrait to Mr. George Kichmond who
lamented that the beard had spoilt "the finest
mouth in England." Prince Albert was the
first person near the throne who wore mous-
taches from the days of Kint; Charles I. to
our own lime and President Grant was the
first bearded President of the United .Stales.
President Lincoln simp'y wore the all-round
chin whiskers which spoil (he outline ex-
pression of the '-human lace divine."
