New York March 30. When "Pop"
Whltaktr appcutd on the stage of Harry
Hill's theater to oversee the slugging exhibi-
tion given for the benefitof Mr. John Saun
ders 1200 people filled the place. The fact
that Sine Doo and Ah Telt the Mongolian
bruisers were to engage in four three minute
rounds was an unexpected treat.
Alter several slashing bouts between local
ttic artists the Chinese were presented by
Bernard Mpgulre of this city. Mr. Doo who
is tall and raw-boned ambled to his corner
with a sheepish air and with a sideling glance
e ueitiy wound nts queue about his head.
"Wo glau tall now."
Mr. 1 elt a slender chap whose face wears
an expression of sweetness followed suit.
After a few remarks by the master of ceremo-
nies they were lead to the scratch. Sing Doo
commenced by a sudden plunge with both
hands at the stomach of his adversary but
the latter demonstrated that he could not be
made a handle of and tapped Mr. Doo on
ine nose. 1 ncy men scratched at eacn otner.
n the "wind uu" Mr. Doo'stail came down.
at which Mr. Telt made a clutch but was
met by a blow bringing him to his knees
un nrisinc me neau-ccar 01 me lauer aiso oc
came loosened and while scrambling for the
queue of his opponent Mr. Doo lest a shoe.
By a neat piece of strategy lie grasped Telt
about the waist and threw him heavily which
closed the bout. In an interview Sine Doo
said not without reticence that in his city
Canton he had knocked out all comers.
Uc was proud of the fame he had achieved
and was eager to meet Cam Feu or any other
laundryman. Ah Telt said he was at Phila-
delphia and had been in (raining for three
months under Alaguue. lie had been the
hero of several encounters but thought he had
not yet been seen at his best. 1 heir tempo-
rary residence is 10S Crosby street.

case before the Supreme court for the. purpose
of settling a question in which sporting men
generally arc interested. He says: "I shall

Which AVas to Say tho Least llodd'
According to it Servant
New York March 28." I'm tired out
that's what I am" said a Vanderbilt retainer
afler the fatigues of a more than unusually
heavy period ot domestic servitude incident to
the ball Monday evening "and we're all hup
side down. To get straightened out it will
take a week or more. Jest you fancy what
thlnes'd be like after visitors drunk $5000 of
champagne lo say nothing of eating and
t'other kinds ot drinkin' which was various.'
The faithful domestic seemed to be a reflex of
the aristocratic dissipation. "It's no use
harskin' me a lot o' questions wich I can't be
gin to answer. Everything went hoffbvely as
to savinir. thouch I nuess the damace'll come
one way or the other to nigh on tcr $6000
perhaps or more. Why there was lorn cur
tains lor one thing one or two broken vases
and sich like proceedings."
"liut can not you give me an idea of the
appearance ot the rooms at tue close 01 tn
festivities ?"
W'ich was to say the least hodd. You
spc the comDanv didn't co awav till after
o'clock and some of them must at least have
left arf their costumes be'ind 'cm. There was
bits ol lace lyin' here a part of a train there
. r.11..'o lll.l In n Krirn.r lh
middle of the ball room was strewn with
broken flowers and leaves looking for all the
world like a palace just belore a hauction.
"What will be done with the flowers ?"
"A irood many was taken awav by th
nueits. The best as was left are waitin1
borders. Somc'll go to the servants and I
hear several will be sent to the orspitals and
churches. Its's too early to say for sure
what 11 be done with em. 1 guess mere
nli?h on arf of 'em that's as cood as new."
"Were any of the pictures damaged 1 "
"Not as I know of leastways I don't hear
of any. but damage to curtains was considera
ble. I don't know everything. I'm told
quite a lot of jewelry was gathered up to-day
and 'anueu to ueiecuves.
"What detectives?"
"There was a dozen or more on dooty to see
that particular dooty and I s'pose to keep a
live on waiters less they prig somethin'. We
had 100 hextra waiters on purpose Lor
bless yer the jam was 01 ful and I must fay
they did splendid."
"What is going to be done with the surpi
food!"
"Talkin' of food I reckon there's enoucl
left to supply 100 families for a week. Most
of it'll havi to be given away 'cos it can1
keep."
'Who will get it 7 "
"The hospitals and the servants. Why
the waste in hices alone was somethin' orful
and as for the wines and lickers. thev w
locked hup just as soon as possible to keep
the servants I rem gettin drunk. 1 'wards th
larst a good many of 'em had has much

Are wc not having a little too much of John
Howard Payne of latet The words of his
only song "Home Sweet Home" are in
our opinion rather wishy-washy and they
would have dropped into oblivion long ago
but for the beautiful music which he did not
compose. The sentiment of home too
thoui'h lancilul and pretty has had Its day.
and is rapidly dying out in this practical age
of quick transit large hotels co-operative

in 100 years trom now the old love 01 home
