4 WHEREAS, In 2004 alone, an estimated 60,500 men, women, and
5 children in the United States will die from leukemia, lymphoma, and
6 myeloma, and leukemias are the leading fatal cancers in young men
7 and women under the age of 20; and
8 WHEREAS, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is dedicated to
9 the eradication of these blood-related cancers through research
10 efforts and to the improvement of the quality of life of the many
11 Americans who suffer f.rom these diseases;.to. that end, patients and
12 their families in Texas benefit greatly from the care and services
13 offered by the society's office in Houston; and
14 WHEREAS, Committed to the search for cures and the support of
15 treatment in the Lone. Star State, the Texas House of
16 Representatives and. Senate encourage private : efforts to increase
17 research funding and to facilitate education programs that address
18 these diseases; and
