HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION "
1 WHEREAS., John 'McDivitt of Houston is retiring from the
2 American Red Cross on June 7, 2004, completing a distinguished
3 38-year tenure with that esteemed organization; and
4 ..WHEREAS, Mr. McDivitt began his career with the Red Cross in
5 :Iowa" in 1966 as a safety program representative in the Midwestern
6 Area; for the past 20 years he has served as chief executive officer
.7: of the Greater Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross, and during
8 his two-decade tenure the chapter has doubled in size and expanded
9 from six to 14 branches; and
10 WHEREAS, A graduate of Southwest Oklahoma State College, this
11 civic-minded individual has previously officiated as executive
12. director of the Rochester-Monroe County Chapter in New York and as
13 manager of the Central Illinois Chapter in Peoria; he has also been
14: affiliated with chapters in Missouri, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; and
15 .WHEREAS., Mr. McDivitt has aided thousands of American
16 families during his illustrious career, providing food, shelter,
17 and other necessities in the aftermath of an array of 'natural
18- disasters, .,..including Tropical Storm Allison; following the
19 tragedies of September 11, 2001,.he devoted six months to working at
20 the American Red Cross National Headquarters, devising disaster
21 .response and preparedness strategies in his role as executive vice
22 president of disaster; and .
23 :::WHEREAS, This commendable gentleman has lent his time and
24 talents to a host of other worthwhile endeavors, including the ARC
