1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
3 recognize Baylor University, one of the leading institutions of
4 higher education in the state; and
5 WHEREAS, Baylor was chartered in 1845 by the Republic of
6 Texas and is the oldest institution of higher education in the
7 state; and
8 WHEREAS, The university offers 162 baccalaureate degree
9 programs, 74 master's and professional degree programs, and 19
10 doctoral degree programs to roughly 14,000 students representing
11 all 50 states and over 70 foreign nations; and
12 WHEREAS, Central to Baylor's mission as a Christian
13 institution is the preparation of students for "worldwide
14 leadership and service," and Baylor alumni have served with
15 distinction in the arts and sciences, law, education, music, and
16 business; and
17 WHEREAS, Baylor students, faculty, alumni, and friends have
18 shown great devotion to the university in the face of recent
19 challenges; now, therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas,
21 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Baylor University for the
22 contributions of its students, alumni, and faculty to the life of
23 this state and commend Baylor's commitment to achieve top-tier
24 status as embodied in the university's 10-year vision, Baylor 2012;
