20 SPECIAL LAWS.
Thence following said Floresville and Pleasanton Road in a northeasterly
direction to the bridge on the San Antonio River;
Thence down said river with its meanders to the place of beginning
and containing 18.000C acres of land, more or less, or about 28
square miles, more or less.
SEC. 2. The management and control of the public free schools of
Floresville Independent School District, as created by this Act, is
hereby divested out of the city of Floresville and its authorities
and vested in a board of trustees that shall be composed of
seven persons, who are resident citizens and qualified voters in said
district and each member of said board of trustees, shall, before enterin'
upon the discharge of his duties as such, subscribe to the official
oath provided by the General Statutes of the State of Texas.
The board of trustees of the present Flo'resville schools as same have
been heretofore organized are hereby continued in office until the
expiration of their respective terms and their successors shall be
elected as provided by the General Laws for the election of trustees
in independent school districts incorporated for school purposes only.
SEc. 3. The Floresville Independent School District, as created by
this Act shall have and exercise, and is hereby vested with all the
rights, powers, privileges and duties of a town or village incorporated
under the General Laws of the State of Texas for free school purposes
only and the board of trustees of said Floresville Independent
School District shall have and exercise and are hereby vested and
charged with all the rights, powers, privileges and duties conferred
and imposed by the General Laws of this State upon the trustees
of independent school districts incorporated under the General Laws
of Texas for free school purposes only.
SEC. 4. The title to any and all school property within the
bounds of said district as described in Section one of this Act is
hereby divested out of the city of Floresville and shall be vested in
the board of trustees of said independent school district, and their
successors in office.
SEC. 5. Any and all outstanding bonded indebtedness heretofore
voted by any territory included within the territory described in
Section, 1 of this Act shall remain in full force and effect and shall be
chargeable against the territory which voted same; provided, however,
that the board of trustees of said district, as herein created,
may order an election, without the necessity of a petition therefor,
foir the purpose of determining whether or not the district, as herein
created as a whole shall assume such outstanding bonded indebtedness.
SEC. 6. The assessor and collector of taxes, as herein provided
shall be required to give bond in the sum of not less than five thousand
dollars. Said bond shall be made payable to the president of
the board of trustees of said district or to his successor in office, and
be approved by said board of trustees, conditioned for the faithful
discharge of.his duties and the payment of the funds received
by him to the treasurer or depository of said board; and he shall
be entitled to receive for his services as such assessor or collector
respectively, not exceeding one and one-half per cent of all funds
