Mother went to see the old man Paddy Malone
the girls names were Margret and Rosey. the
old man was so pleased for Mother to visit them.
consented for Mother to take them to the ball.
he was a Roman Catholic asked Mother not to
let any d. heretric make love to his girls the ball
was not a-success. there were but few young
people present. the pretty Irish girls monopolized
all attention from the young men. none of our
Harris-burg friends atended. Harvey Stafford had
all-ways paid me agreat deal of attention. had
no eyes for any one but the pretty Irish girls. he
had been in Houston that week. said several
yound men would be at the ball among Clinton
Harris. they didnt come and as Mr. leo Roark
didnt dance sine his Mother death I was half the
time with out apartner. My boy lover was happy.
teased me about Clinton Harris till I wouldnot
dance with him. the Consequnce was I acted
wall flower half the night I never met my boy
lover agane till i was them mother of two
Children and he agrown man. very handsomeand en-gaged to be married to a lovely young
lady. this was the last time the four families Dyer
Neal Bell & Rose met we had lived near
neighbors since the year 34 without a word of
Dissension among us.

we all went home sad and disap-pointe and to
make the affair worst several people stoped at
our house on theire return from Houston and told
what agrand af-fair the first San Jacinto ball in
Houston had been.
the summer of 37 soon passed. we had a goo
school and rased agood crop. Harvey Stafford
died very suddent with congestion. as his deat
oc-cured soon after our San Jacinto ball it was
asad be-reave-men for he was a favorite with
the old people as well as young. the irish Colony
from san-patricia left Early in the summer Pady
Molon with his pretty daughters went with them.
in September we moved to our new home on
brays bayou. liv that winter in a log hous vistied
Houston to atende Church went to school there
in the year 38. the teacher name was Hambleton
he taught the second school in Houston. Mrs
Sawyear the first. she married amr lockhart the
school house was a was built out of rough plank.
consisted of two rooms. the boys room was with
out aplank floor. no shutter to the door or glass in
the win-dow. rough planks plase on barrels and
nail kegs for writing desks and seat nomes of
families whos Children attended school Bose
Parker Woodruff king Mcroiley Cooppr Martin
killgore Gazley Vernon Sam Allen and is half
borothe Florney Hunt others whos name I dont
remember. among them apretty a girl from new
york who criticese our school texas and Houston
till we me named her texas there were several
German families sent theire Children to study
