off us Children were glad he was gon. uncle
James and three of the young trid to find the
wild horse but couldnt find him.

one of the neighbors are going to leave texas
Mr. Stafford left in June. his wife will leave in
afew days. they have some proper-ty in the united
states that re-quires theire presence. Mrs.
Stafford came to see Mother. Said she would
not retur to texas as she didn't in-tend too bring
any more slaves too mexico. She is Mr. Stafford
second wife has two small Children. will travel
over land as she is going to take a negro man &
woman with her. she Could go on a schooner
from Anahuac but would be arrested in New
Orleans for bringing slaves too the United States.
She had friends in san Augustine neare the
boundary line betwen mexico and the united
states. they would help her. Father advised her
to leave the negros. Said she might have trouble
as the united statse goverment had Monro
Edwards under ar-rest for runing negros in to
the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. she said
the man was anxious to go as he had parents
living in Louisiana neare where she was going
she has agood hack and two mules for travling
all the neighbors gave her letters to mail too
friends in the united states. Adam Stafford will
go with her too Linch fery on the San Jacinto
river, he has Cotton on aschooner at Harris burg
but cant send it out till he get apermit from the
Custom house officer at anahuac. mexico has a
reve-nue cutter at Galveston island. all the
neighbors were sory to see Mrs. Stafford go

Our school closed the last day of Augst. the young
men and boys had to gathe the crops. Cotton
pickin is the orde of the day. evey body at work.
the only discontented person amoung us is Mr.
Gallatin. he can't get over the loss of his horse.our school teacher Mr. Henson left the first of
September. says he will return and teach during
the winter. Mr. adam Stafford has returned from
anahuac. went with his sep-mother to the natches.
Said she was geting along very well. Mother was
glad to hear from Mrs. Stafford. She had been
very kinde to our family. all the neighbors miss
her. Mrs. Dyer and Neill her step daughters fee
her loss very much. Father is going to Harris-
burg. he has abale of cotto and three or four
hundred weight of hides he made alarge sleigh
like those used in missouri for driveing on the
snow. he has agentle yoke of oxen. loaded the
sleigh with cotton and hides. Mr. Gallantin is goen
to leave. he is well but greaving about his horse.
uncle James and Leo Roark has spent ten day
hunting for the hose but cant find him. Say the
horse must have got with the mostangs Mother
mad alist of things she needed Father asked us
Children what he should bring us from Harris-
burg we gave him alist he said it would take
alarge wagon too haul all our wants. he took our
measure for shoes. Sister and I told him to get
us two pair of shoes for each of us. to pairs of
red shoes and tw pairs for every day weare. he

loaded the Sleigh with one bale of cotton and the
hides. Mr. Gallatin sit on the cotton. both had
guns. went prepared to Camp. after anabcence
of several day returned with the red shoes and
other necessarys we had been with-out for
months. also some old news papers agentleman
gave him. the papers were publish in New
Orleans. brought Brother Granvill boots and a
fine hat. got the boys that are picking cotton
Clothing. Father sold his cotton for agood price.
after supper he took down his shot-pouch and
handed the babe apaire of blus slipers. didnt get
flour. there was not abarrel of flour in Harrisburg.
but there was aschooner detained at Anahuac
loaded with flour salt sugar and other grocer103
