Acknowledgements and Notes
For their help in producing part 7 of "Consider the Lily," gratitude is due to Barry A. Crouch,
who provided resource material and, under trying circumstances, looked over the manuscript prior to
publication, and to Crouch and Randolph B. Campbell, whose articles on the Reconstruction period,
published in this magazine, opened many doors. Thanks are also due to Patricia Woolery-Price and
her now-deceased parents, James H. Wooten, Jr., and Katherine Evans Wooten, whose article on
Reconstruction for Colorado County Chronicles is perhaps the best researched in the book and made
my own research far easier.
