This is a good stock country, range is splendid
and water is plentiful.
Corn raised on prairie lands, twenty to
thirty bushels; on bottom lands from forty to
sixty bushels per acre; bottom lands, one bale
cotton to the acre; prairie land, three-quarters
of a bale to the acre. Eagle Lake has six dry
goods stores, two saloons, one stable, three
hotels, two blacksmith shops, two carriage
shops, one beef market, one boot and shoe shop,
and a number of handsome residences. Several
of her stores are large, and have quite a city
like appearance. Her business men are gener-
ous, enterprising and intelligent, and with such
men Eagle Lake is destined to become a town
of note. Below we give the names of its most
prominent business men:

geons
Converse Jas., & Co., dealers in gen-
eral merchandise.
Ficklen, J. F., dealer in general mer-
chandise.
Guynn, Jno. A., traveling agent.
Jones, B. C., Dr., druggist.
McCarty, J. W., dealer in general mer-
chandise.Following is the assessment of Colo-
rado county:
360,044 acres of land, $1,338,355; city
and town lots, $314,985; 7,658 horses and
mules, $153,979; 33,519 cattle, $179,450;
1,266 hogs, $1,585; 9 jacks and jennetts, $450;
carriages and conveyances, $49,790; manufac-
tured implements machinery, etc., $19,950;
goods, wares and merchandise, $201,895;
money on hand, $185,185; miscellaneous prop-
erty, $60,675; total value, $2,593,359; state
and county tax, $26,839.37.
Non-residents property:
83,105 acres of land, $91,820; city and
town lots, $11,880; horses, $100; miscellaneous
property, $100; total value, $103,800; state and
county tax, $8,932.26.
Roll of unrendered property:
61,626 acres of land, $93,075; city and
town lots, $590; miscellaneous property,
$9,660; total value, $103,325; state and county
tax, $1,131.80; Galveston, Harrisburg and San
Antonio railroad, thirty-eight and one-half
miles, $340,000; Western Union telegraph com-

The financial condition of the county
is very flattering, there being in the treasury at
present about $9,500.46
