Sarah Kearney, the valedictorian of the 1996 Columbus High School graduating class, is
now attending Trinity University in San Antonio. She won numerous awards and citations for her
artwork while she was in high school, including a fine arts scholarship from the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo and first place in the state of Texas in a patriotic poster contest sponsored by the
American Legion. She was also one of twelve recognized winners in a Houston Chronicle editorial
cartoon contest.
