Appendix A
The booklet in which Green 's article originally appeared was financed by
advertisements purchased by businesses and individuals from across the county. The
advertisements appeared on the inside front cover, on page 2, on pages 19 through 32,
and on the inside back and back covers of the booklet. The text of those advertisements
are reproduced in this appendix. No attempt has been made to replicate the style in which
they were set in type. Words and phrases that were originally set in all capital letters
have been set in upper and lower case letters herein, with modern rules of capitalization
applied. Those that were originally set in upper and lower case letters have been
reproduced in their original form. The pages on which the advertisements originally
appeared are given in brackets.[Inside Front Cover]
Valuable river farm for sale in Colorado
County. A great bargain is now offered by
me in the sale of my farm of Three Hundred
and Fifty Acres, fronting on the Colorado
river, three miles from Columbus, the
county seat, and in a high state of cultiva-
tion-225 acres cleared, cultivated and
under a first-class stake and rider fence.
The land is as high as any on the river, and
above all ordinary overflows-only sub-
merged when the entire valley is flooded
-which is not more, according to past
experience, than once in twenty years.
The farm is divided into two separate
fields, equal in size, not under the same
fencing. Gates communicate at all needful
points. Improvements consist of a Frame
Dwelling, a Gin House, with Iron Screw
Press, Crib and seven Tenant Houses. A
fine Peach Orchard and two good wells.
For the greater part of the year the river is
fordable, with not over two feet of water
immediately opposite the dwelling-short-
ening the distance to town by one mile.
The place is three miles from town by way
of the iron bridge. The land rents readily,
and is now stocked with good colored
tenants, who pay $5 per acre. All the land
not under fence is covered with a heavygrowth of fine timber. The land, with deep
plowing, and cultivated in a farmer-like
manner, is warranted to produce 1800
pounds of seed cotton to the acre, and
from 50 to 60 bushels of corn. The range
for hogs is unsurpassed. And this busi-
ness pays largely in Colorado county.
Good tenants can always be obtained
from the large negro population in Colo-
rado county, who are industrious and law-
abiding. Title to the premises is clear, and
will be warranted. I sell the property
because professional duties will not allow
me to give the farm my personal attention.
Terms: One-third of the purchase money
to be paid in cash, the balance on long time
to suit purchaser. For further particulars

orda, Bee and Live-Oak Counties for sale,
comprising many of the richest and most
productive plantations and valuable stock
farms in south-western Texas. I feel satis-66
