bage. . .However, the police

between the Rusk Eagles and Woodville. Home-
coming activities will get underway at Musick

Homecoming Activities Will
Precede Friday Night Game
Homecoming for Rusk High
School is set for Friday
night during the Rusk Eagle-
Woodville football game at
Musick Stadium. This will
be the final game of the sea-
son for the Eagles.
Activities will begin at a
Pep Rally during school hours
Friday. Along with regular
pep rally activities, the pre-
sentation of the 1967-68 Foot-
School Bid To Change Districts Is
Rejected; Board Talks Principalship
An appeal to the Execu-
tive Committee of the Inter-
scholastic League at Austin
last week failed to get Rusk
transferred from District 22-
AA to 17-AA. Supt. Jack Mar-
tin made his report at last
Thursday night's regular No-
vember school board meeting.
He stated that he and Board
president Ed Dickey had pre-
sented their request on Wed-
nesday at Austin, and by let-
ter, Dr. Rhea Williams, dir-
ector of UIl . said the com-
mittee had denied the trans-
fer.
Rusk, now In district com-
petition with Cold Springs-
Oakhurst Consolidated, Cro-
ckett, Madlsonville.Sam Hou-
ston of Huntsville, Dunbar
of Lufkln, and Diboll, based
its appeal on a distance fac-
tor. It sought admission to
District 17-Aa including Lin-
dale, Troup, Chapel Hill, Van,
Browns boro and Whitehouse.

ter district were present for
the hearing in Austin, and

The members of the Rusk
School board chose to take
no further action In the mat-
ter during Thursday's meet-
ing.
In other action to come be-
fore the body, the position
of Principal of next year's
Intermediate (7th and 8th
grade) School was offered to
Coach Doyle Brooks.
Brooks this week comment-
ed that he would not make a
decision until he had given
the matter complete thought
and study. He said that he
was definitely Interested, but
his career thus far had been
in coaching, and it wouldn't
be an easy decision to reach.

excorted by Martin Morrow,

During the Halftlme act-
ivities the Rusk High School1
Band will be presented. The
Band elects a sweetheart by
secret ballot, to remain se-
cret until Halftlme activities.
Band Director Lester Hughes
will recognize all Senior band
members.
Following the drill by the
Rusk High Band, the Rusk
Eaglettes, directed by Mrs.
Rita Price, will make their
first appearance during Half-
time. The Eaglettes have for-
merly preformed before foot-
ball games. A special Home-
coming formation and drill
Is planned by the Eaglettes.
Following the football gam*
the Senior class will host a
recaption for all RHSitudents
and Bx-atudenta at the high
school gym.

Increased
The Rusk City Council met
in a special session Tues-
day night, October 31st at
7;00 p.m. in the city hall.
Councilmen present includ-
ed Mayor Nichols; and Al-
dermen Johnny Williams,
J. P. Acker, Clyde Smith,
Marshall Dear, and C. L.
Manning; water superinten-
dent J. D. Norton; and city
secretary Kendrick Frazer.
A major point of business
brought before the Council
was the service charge hike.
Residential garbage fees will
be raised from $1.00 to $2.00.
Charges for places of busi-
ness were adjusted accor-
dingly, and / or an additional
$1.00. Approved by majority
vote, the measure was retro-
active effective December 1,
1967.
The Council agreed to pay
a salary of $100.00 per month
to Alvin Smith for his ser-
vices to the city water de-
partment, effective October
15, 1967.
A motion was unanimously
carried to the effect that ar-
chitects of Cal-Mac Engin-
eering Co. be authorized to
advertise for bids on the city
library building, giving bid-
ders at least 30 days to sub-
mit.
Other business included a
discussion of the 1941 fire
truck which is in use with

form of a Talent Show and
Auction Telethon. The show
will be held In the Rusk Junior
High Cafetoriurn beginning at
7;30 p.m. and will be broad-
cast over the television faci-
lities of E-Z Vision Cable
Company, Channel 6.
Overall Chairman of the 2nd
Annual TV Telethon for this
year Is Jim Perkins.
Kiwanlans Pat Neill and Mel-
vin Moore head the solltlcit-
lng of merchandise for this
year's auction portion of the
program. Marshall Norton
will serve as auctioneer as-
sisted by Adon Duncan and
other Klwanians. Master of
Ceremonies will be Morris
Hassell.
The talent portion of the
program will be divided Into
two categories, high school
grades 9 through 12 and ju-
nior high grades 1 through8,
with prizes of beautiful ros-
ettes with gold lettering pre-
sented to the first three win-
ners in each age group. Group
and induvidual talent is wel-
comed and an audition will
be held Thursday night in
the Junior High Cafetorlum.
According to Mr. Perkins,
"the talent portion of the
program is primarily for the
area youth and to give them
an opportunity to perform be-
fore the public and over te-
levision."
The auction will be held
alternately with the talent
throughout the telethon. A-
mong the many items to be
put up for auction are num-
erous gift certificates, cof-
fee pot, wearing apparel, bed
spread, paint, lamp, bill folds,
and sport's kits. Bids on
merchandise may be made
by telephone or In the au-
dience. Phone numbers will
be announced the night of the
program over the television
prior -tfr the beginning ofthe
auction. Those who attend
may purchase tickets for 50<
at the door or In advance
from Kiwanis Club members.
Proceeds from the show
will be used locally for pro-
jects by the Kiwanis Club.
Worthwhile and charitable
activities supported by the
club Include—sponsoring a
Boy Scout Troop; sending re-
presentatives each year to
Boy's and Girl's State; the
Kiwanis Livestock Show in
the Spring; sponsoring of the
>Key Club, a boy's service
club at the high school; and
donations to charity and needy
causes throughout die year.

Tourneys Are Scheduled

Rusk businessmen, for the
Annual Boys and Girls' Bas-
ketball Tournaments have
been received by the Rusk
Quarterback Club. This will

Tourney and the Boys' 5th
Annual Tournament.
Thus far San Augustine,
Maydelle, Palestine, Cen-
tral High, Joaquin and Rusk
have entered the Glrls'Tour-
nament scheduled for Novem-
ber 30, December 1st and
2nd. Trophies will be award-
ed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd pl-
ace; consolation, sportsman-
ship; and 12 all-tournament
awards.
Troup, Carlisle High, San
Augustine, Central, Van's
"B" team, Jacksonville', New
Summerfleld and Rusk are
scheduled for the Boys*
Tournament. This tourney
will be held December 7, 8,
and 9th. The Boys' trophies
will be the same as above
with the exception of a con-
solation runner-up trophy and
only 10 all - tournament
awards.
A tentative schedule for
the Girls* tourney has been
set up as follows: Thursday,
Nov. 30th, games at
5:00, 6;30, and 8:00; Friday,
Dec. 1st (only two game*
due to the Rusk Chamber
of Commerce Christmas
parade X 7:00 and 8.-13; and
Saturday, Dec. 2nd,
at 5:00, 6:30 and 8*
