The Menace
that she was pregnant, and prescribed remedies to produce
an abortion. We had him arrested for practicing medicine
without a license. We also preferred charges in the Federal
Court for illegal use of the mails. He was tried the 20th
of May on the latter charge. The jury rendered a verdict of
guilty, the court assessing his punishment at eighteen
months in the United States prison at Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas.
Case No. 12
Mrs. "Dr." Susannah Norton. This old lady claimed to
be a doctor, but was only a midwife, and advertised to treat
all diseases of women. Her principal specialty being that of
an abortionist. We .sent her letters through the United
States mail asking her to send the means to bring the de-
sired relief. She also speedily complied with our request.
She was arrested for criminal use of the United States mail.
She plead quilty and was fined two hundred and fifty dol-
lars, and her license to practice midwifery was revoked.
Case No. 13
"Dr." A. G. Delenbaugh was arrested for practicing med-
icine without a license. He plead guilty and was fined fifty
dollars and one day in jail.
Case No. 14
Fred Wegley. He was arrested for selling a fake dope
known as "Lopez Remedy," which he recommended for the
cure of various diseases. After a plea of guilty he was fined
fifty dollars, sentence suspended provided he discontinue
his business.
Case No. 15
"Dr." C. M. Brondo, a Mexican woman, had secured from
her druggist a list of prescriptions for all kinds of diseases,
and when a patient would come to see her she would get
them to say what their trouble was, and she would copy the78
