A LIFE OUT OF DOORS.
It must be ever borne in mind byie invalitd, t eeks climatic refuge, that an out-of-
door life is absolutely essential to restoration to health. It e pure, fresh and invigorating
air that he needs to build up his \vasting tissues through the -genation of his blood thus
secured. He needs the hills, rat er than the valleys. He needs th ountry, rather than the
city. He needs the pastoral r gion, rather than the agricultural land. e needs
horseback exercise, pedestrian jaunts, cycling trips and hunting, fishing ai . -
nutting tours. The blood inmust be oxygenated and the excretory functions o . .
the body and the appetite and digestionii encouraged and strengthened through .
exercise iii the open air. Not that the invalid should be allowed to wear himn-
self out in overdoing, but all the exercise that he can with safety take should
be enjoined for his guidance.
Consuiption is a wasting disease. Repair and upbuilding are constantly
required, aid these processes can be carried out to best advantage where
elimination of debris is secured by exercise and its attendant excretory pro-
cess,/ Dormancy and quiescence conduce to neither of these functions;
activity to both. Only that climate is suited to the necessities of the ;
throat and lung invalid in which out-of-door life is possible, almost thl
whole year round. .
