Something New Under the Here-
ford Sun.
It is with great pleasure that we
announce to the ladies of Hereford
that we are now ready to open a
department of domestic science in
our College. We have secured Miss
Delia Harris, a graduate from the
largest and best Agricultural and
Industrial Colleges in the west, to
take charge of it.
The day has long since past when
young ladies in order to be accom-
plished must confine their education
to foreign languages and art for now
they must also be familiar with the
art of cooking and sewing in order
to hold their place among college
women.
We do not need to tell you how
necessary it is for every housewife
to know not only the way to cook
food but also its chemical composi-
tion and effect upon the body. The
health and happiness of a family de-
pends more upon the cookery than
upon any one other thing, for as
Owen Meredith says:
We may live without poetry, music
and art,
We may live without conscience,
and live without heart;
We may live without friends; we
may live without books,
But civilized man cannot live
without cooks.
Through the kindness of Mr. Ty-
gret we extend a cordial invitation
to the ladies of Hereford to attend a
demonstration to be given by Miss
Harris in the dining room of the
Ritchie House on Saturday, Sept.
19th at 9 o'clock. She will explain
more fully her Chautauqua course.
Rates to Roswell Fair.
The Pecos Valley System will
make a rate of $4.80 for the round
trip to Roswell, N. M. Tickets will
be sold from Sept. 21 to 24 inclu-
sive good for 15 days from date of
sale with stopover privileges at all
intermediate points during the life of
ticket. tf
FUTURE
Who Knows
What The Future Holds in Store?
It is a scaled book which only
Time can open.
Have you provided for your family
in the event of your death?
Have you provided for your own
independence at the time when you
will be mustered out of the ranks of
business, disqualified by infirmity,
old age,or disease?
Such a time must ¿orne to every
living person.
A policy taken now in the New-
York Life will banish all worry, heart-
ache and regret when th*t inevitable
time arrives.
To-morrow may be too late. You
may then be unable to get one of the
New-York Life's Accumulation Poli-
cies. Therefore—
Do It Now!

To the Public.
We, the undersigned, are put to a
great expense to provide the city of
Hereford with clean, up-to-date meat
markets. We believe that the pub-
lic should appreciate our efforts to
provide the people of Hereford with
enterprises of this kind and purchase
their meats from us. Our expenses
for rents, ice and telephone accom-
modations amount to no little sum
and we believe that the people
should patronize us instead of buy-
ing their meat from peddlars who
pay nothing toward the city's im-
provements. After the first
of September we will sell for cash
only and will thus be enabled to meet
the prices of the peddlers. Will
you give us your patronage? Don't
you think we deserve it.

There will be services both morn-
ing and evening Sunday at the court
house. For good and sufficient rea-
sons several appointments have
elapsed so let every one who pos-
sibly can be present Sunday.
