TSU's Men's Basketball Team
beat number 5 in nation — rank-
ed Oral Roberts University in a
astounding victory that had fans,
as well as Sports Information
Service Director Reed Rich-
mond, declaring Lonn Reisman
the best basketball coach in'the
southwest.
Reisman, a 2-year, 36-year-old
Tarleton coach, has won 42
regular season games in his
tenure, the 24 this year being the
most that Tarleton in one season.
Reisman, whose policy of
strong defense has his team
number one in TIAA and number
15 in the nation, will lead the
team in the NAIA playoffs this
coming week, if all goes well
play wise.
"We've got to win three
ballgames [to get into the na-
tionals]," Richmond said, "but

America."
The team was 9 and 1 in con-
ference this year with a 24 and
4 total record.
Tarleton is the number 27
ranked team in the nation this
week, along with being the se-
cond seated team in the NAIA
District 5 playoffs after winking
the TIAA.
This is currently Reisman's se-
cond consecutive year for being
TIAA "Coach of the Year," and
in both years has led Tarleton to
the NAIA playoffs.
The year before Reisman ar-
rived, Tarleton had a record of
3 and 25. Last year, TSU record-
ed an 18 and 11, and this year
they were 24 and 4. In the
previous 26 years, Tarleton had
only one winning season.
"There is a commitment to
winning here," Reisman often
says to fans. "This is a first class
institution, and we will build a
first-class basketball program."
And the fans agree that
Reisman is giving his all to the
game by the tremendous support
they have shown at games.
Attendance

"It's really rewarding for a
bunch of kids that worked real
hard and played above their
abilities many, many nights,"
said Reisman.
"The win is like a meter," he
said. "It tells you how far your
program has come. And when
we start competing with a count
of that caliber, you figure that
you're not far from competing in
the national playoff and winning
the national championship."

The Texans began the week by
crushing Angelo Rams at home,
63-59 in front of 1000 fans at
Wisdom gym. Tarleton playing
sluggish after their victory over
Oral Roberts allowed the Rams
to hold close on the scoreboard.
Steve Overstreet for the Rams
ruled the paint and accounted for
19 of Angelo's 27 first half
points.
At half time the Texans held
on to a small 29-27 point lead,
with Jeffery McFadden and
Tracy Guy leading the way.
At half time Coach Reisman
must have lit a fire under the
Texans inside players, because
during the second half McFadden
Hicks shut down
Angelo's Overstreet r .allowing-
him- to score'only two points in
the entire second half.
The Texans again in the second
half out scored the Rams by two
points and defeated them 63-59.
For the Texans, McFadden led
everyone in scoring and re-
bounds, by scoring 31 points and
pulling down 14 rebounds. Close
behind was Tracy Guy with 16
and Mark Smith with 8 points.
Smith and McFadden also kept
a lead in the TIAA in blocked
shots by adding 2 and 3
respectively.
