as their favorites last week. Miss Cox is a pre-law
major from Comanche'and Hill is a general agriculture

Student Fees Increase
A $30-per-semester stu-
dent services fee for Tarle-
ton State College was ap-
proved Tuesday by the Tex-
as A&M University System
Board of Directors, effective
this fall.
Dr. W.O. Trogdon, Tar-
leton president, told board
members the college had
held the line on student ser-
vices since 1964 but rising
costs in several key areas
now necesitated a fee in-
crease.
He cited intercollegiate
athletics, intramural sports,
student health service, the
yearbook and the Student
Center as areas in which op-
erating expenses are in-
creasing.
Tarleton currently has
a student services fee of $28
for the fall s-emcster and for
new students registering the
second semester and $23 for
second-semester students
who were enrolled.in the fall
semester.

fee will remain $4.75 for
each session.

Corp., $66 from the Tarleton
Campus Club, and $37.50
from the Bulldog Boosters
Club of Hamilton.

The election of fresh-
man and sophomore favorites
sparked the soc.::id event of.
the 1970 Spring Elections
last week. Sue Cox and Steve
Hill won freshman honors,
while Zana Underwood joined.
Joe Myers as sophomore fav-
orite.
Sue Cox, a pre-law
major from Comanche served
as head cheerleader and
president of the National
Honor Society during her
senior year. At TSC, Miss
Cox is currently a member
of the Student Senate, a Dis-
tinguished Student, and, ah
O.W.L.S. pledge..
When arfked her reaction
to being voted freshmari fav-
orite, Miss Cox remarked, 'I
was just real surprised and
honored.'
On the masculine side
of freshman honors, Steve
Hill came out on top:. Hill,
who came to TSC from'Color-
ado City, _ participated in
baseball during his high
school curriculum. In addi-
tion, he served as president
and Gold Star Boy Of 4-H.
Hill, a Los Cobb s
pledge, enjoys horseback
riding and roping.. When
asked his thoughts of being
chosen freshman favorite, he
thought for a moment, then
replied, 'I thought people
were crazy!' ; 1
Sophomore 1 favorite
Zana Underwood attended
high school in Ft. Worth-
The petite, blonde Physical
Education major served as a
Cheerleader last semester
and was recently crowned
Valentine Queen. Miss Uii-
derwood is a member of
O.W.L.S. and is presently
being initiated into Beta
Beta Beta.
When asked how she
felt about receiving the
honor, Miss Underwjood re-
plied, 4I was so excited..il
screamed a lot, too!'
Joe Myers, also a soph-
omore favorite, is from An-
son. Myers is a member of
Los Cobbs and a member df
the Student Senate. In addi-
tion, he has played football
for the past two years at
TSC.
Other nominees for
freshman favorites included:
Mary Doty, Brenda Newton,
Cynthia Uzzelt, David Maul-
din and Dean Neely.
Sophomore nominees in-
cluded Susan Meyer, Christi
Young, Pat Perkins and Lar-
ry Rochat.
The 1970 Spring Elec-
tions- will continue next
week with the election of
junior and senior favorites.
Nominations will be held
Monday, March 9, with final
elections to be held Wednes-
day, March 11.

Council Settles Beef
A meeting ot. the Foods
Council was held Feb. 25, at
which time sev^a) recommen-
dations were made concern-
ing the improvement of food
and service for the benefit of
the students.
The recommendations
were made as a result of a
Study Committee headed by
Dennis Hallford and Jerry
Cox. The recommendations
included solutions to the
following:
(a) excessive grease
(b) cold food—to help
keep the food warmer, the
Dining Hall has started put-
ting all the food on one
plate.
(c) hard bread,—warming .
ovens are in this year's bud,--
get.
(d) excessive left-overs
(e) tirii' schedules—the
evening meal will not be
served until 4:40. At this
time the line will be opened.
(f) cleanliness of uten-
sils.
(g) atmosphere within
the Dining Htul-e f'forts are
being made to hfcve music
during all mea!-i.
•Thursday, March 25, the
head of iht . SMU Dining Hall
and president of the National
Restaurant Association will
visit the TSC Dining Hall
and make suggestions toward
. improvement. ,
A suggestion box has
been installed in the TSC
Dining Hall. This will be the
key link between the students
and the Dining Hall Adminis-
tration, but alt suggestions
muni be signed.
In o.der to become a
better functioning committee,
the Foods Council has reor-
ganized their structure to
work through the Student Sen-
ate. Scott Beaver will remain
as chairman and ;'immy Pate
and. Jane Valenti.ie will be
the other members of the Co-
ordinating Committee.
The Council will meet
at least twic? monthly in an
effort to speed up student-
din infe hall relations. These
Council meetings are open to
the general student body
when the chairman deems it
profitable.
Any student wishing to
attend a Fa. :! ' ouncil meet-
ing should contact a Council
member prior to a meeting to
be put on the agenda.
