the home of Mrs. T. M. Bartley

George W. Jimerson were surprised
to find their children and grand-
children gathered to celebrate
their 40th wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimerson were led
into the dining room to find a
loaded table prepared by the
children. In the center of the table
was a tiered cake with miniature
bride and bridegroom and silver
colored ribbon streamers leading
to hidden fortunes.
After the dinner was served
buffet style, the cake was cut and
the fortunes were read. •
The children present for the an-
niversary were Mr. and Mrs. Hardy
Orow and children, Dale and Au-
born; Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Jimer-
son, ■ Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Slade,
Wells Jiinerson, and Misses

JOINERVILLE. — A Christmas
program, “Teaching the Spirit of
Christmas,"- will be presented in
the Gaston High Auditorium
Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock
with an operetta/ carols and other
musical numbers. Mrs. H. C. Cope-
land, head of the music depart-
ment, and Miss 'Louise Pfarr, Eng-
lish and speech teacher, will di-
rect the program.
Mrs. C. F. Suggs, president of
thq senior P.-T.A. has announced
a call meAing of executive com-
mitteewofnen, all committee chair-
man and room mothers of the
Junior and Senior High school
rooms for Thursday afternoon at
3 o’clock.
On the program Thursday night,
the High School Glee Club will
sing several old favorites of the
well known Christmas carols. The
Junior High Harmonica Band will
furnish music for the evening, and
a chorus from the fifth grade will
sing and give costume numbers.
The operetta, 'entitled “Jean-
nette and Isabella” is taken from
an old French carol by Bertha
Elsmith. Jeannette and Isabella
are two of the many French pea-
sants who come with cakes and
Joy to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
In the operetta Mona George
Hamil will play the part of Mary
and James Crook .will portray

selves and were given a hearty

asked by the worthy matron to
