Ever dear friend,

I will try to answer your letter which I received last Tuesday. I would have answered immediately, but when I received your letter I was as speckled, with measles, as a mud fence with crawfishes, and just about as weak and good looking. I have been very sick and my eyes are nearly out. They were so sore I could hardly read your letter, but they are a little better. But if you can't make out this letter, you will know the cause. I am up again, but am very feeble. I'm afraid I will not be able to work any this week. I haven't the time to lose, but will have to. Allow me to express my
