Miss Emma Davis
Very dear friend,

Willie informed me that you had not received my letter when he left, but I guess you have ere this, at least I guess it is in the Office. And for fear you have not and may think strange my not writing I will drop you a few lines.

I am very sorry to hear of your illness and more so because I can't see you. I had far rather lie in my bed in sickness than for you to suffer the slightest pain. But as it is otherwise willed, I suppose I shall have to abide by
