so to keep him from knowing the truth, as he is considerable of a gab, I took the ring off and told him a long story about the initials in it, he had no more idea who it belongs to than nothing. And this evening, I let Charlie Sherwood try it on to get him one by he never saw the initials.

Emma, I sent you a present by Willie which I guess you have received ere this, it is a very poor affair and of which I am ashamed. But it was the best I could get at present. I will try and get you a ring and bring it Christmas provided I can induce you to wear it, if not I will return yours.
