received my letters yet, but will look for them next week. Will keep them and let you see what sweet letters I wrote to my used to be "Lover." Provided I get them.

I laughed a good deal when I read what you told your Ma. Tell your Ma I never thought about both of us being such great chicken eaters before, but I don't believe I will let it break up the match, would you?

Sept. 1st, 1879

Dear Johnie,

I received your letter a few days since, and will answer this morning. Excuse pencil as I have had the nervous headache for two or three days and if I attempted to write with pen you would fail to read my letter.

Brother Fletcher and I spent Saturday night last week in the City of Black Jack Grove. They had a social at the hotel (Jenkins). They have a tolerably good piano, and we did our best as far as the music was concerned, which you know was poorly. When I
