generally do in his company. He is all the admirer I have now, and he is not much larger than my fist. Goodbye till I find more paper.

"Angel's Abode"
July 16, 1879

Mr. J. C. Brewer
My dear friend,

A very interesting letter of your composition is in my possession and I am with all of my power trying to reply in such a manner as to entertain you for a few minutes.

Before I further go, let me apologize just a little for my unusual bad writing. I have been taking writing lessons long enough to spoil my old hand write, and not long enough to learn yet. I hope though I will see the day I will reprieve my character in writing this most awful letter. You'll excuse me, won't you?
