Texas had a population of 5,397,000 in June, 1927, according to estimate of the Bu-
reau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce. This estimate is
733,772 above the figure of 4,663,228 derived from the actual count taken in 1920, and
is based upon the growth of population in Texas during the interval between the cen-
sus of 1910 and that of 1920, which was 19.7 per cent. Probably this estimate does full
justice to the growth of Texas since 1920. In the absence of an actual count since that
year, the best indication of increase or decrease of population may be found in the
