tion," that is, the nearest apparent
approach of the two bodies to each
other as seen in the sky. When "in
conjunction" two bodies have the
same longitude or right ascension.

means that the two bodies differ by
90 degrees of longitude or right
ascension.
This sign means that the two bodies
are "in opposition," or opposite each
other with respect to the earth, that
is, differing by 180 degrees of longi-
tude or right ascension.
