Meetings
The TSHA's 1994 annual meeting will be held in Austin, March 3-5,
1994, at the Stouffer Hotel. Plans for the meeting are well under way,
and we're letting you know about it now since many of you like to be
sure to set that weekend aside every year. Frank de la Teja, chairman of
the program committee, and the committee members have put together
another strong lineup of sessions. As in years past, there will be many pa-
pers that will interest you, no matter what your interests: the Texas
Rangers, women's studies, Spanish colonial Texas, and scores more. We
will be providing more specifics as we get closer to the meeting, so look
here in future Quarterlies. Of course we will once again feature our auc-
tions of Texana-rare books, maps, prints--which are always highlights
of the meeting, and which have become among the most anticipated
auctions of Texana anywhere. Put '"TSHA" on your calendars for next
March, and we'll see you in Austin. For those of you who have never
been, ask a friend who goes regularly and find out how interesting and
how much fun it is to attend the sessions, hear the special banquet
speakers, bid on a book or two, and share in the atmosphere of learning.
The thirty-third annual Western History Association meeting will be
held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 13-16, 1993. The 1993 program
celebrates the WHA's return to Tulsa with sessions featuring the re-
sources of the Gilcrease Institute. Physical landscapes will receive special
attention, with emphasis on the plains. Other sessions will consider cul-
tural interaction, cooperation, and conflict from the Trans-Appalachian
frontier to the American Southwest; the allocation, exploitation, and
preservation of natural resources; and issues of gender, race, and ethnic-
ity. Sessions on the twentieth-century West will examine such topics as
aviation, the Civilian Conservation Corps, nursing, and the Mormon
Church since World War II. Three roundtables will consider recent
scholarly works and one will attempt to answer the question of "Where
the West Begins." Conference programs will be mailed in August. For

In addition, the program committee for the thirty-fourth annual WHA
meeting, to be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 20-23,
1994, is now accepting proposals for sessions. Proposals should include
a brief summary of prospective papers, with participant names and a
short paragraph on each presenter, chair, and commentator. The com-120
