The wildlife of Texas was well represented in the two volumes of Emory's
report, which was published in 1857 and 1859. The lithograph of the
Texas screech owl was plate I in the "Birds of the Boundary" section,
written by Spencer F. Baird, then assistant secretary of the Smithsonian
