Southwestern Historical Quarterly
The American Association for State and Local History Press has
announced the publication of the thirteenth edition of the Directory of
Historical Agencies in North America, edited by Betty Pease Smith. This
book is an ideal reference for local historians and historical agency
personnel. It contains more than 9,300 listings of historical societies,
museums, government agencies, genealogical depositories, oral history
centers, folklore societies, living history groups, libraries and archival
depositories, and other organizations related to the history field. It
also contains photographs of historic sites across North America, an
expanded index section that lists the organizations by their specific
historical subject matter, and a section devoted to the suppliers of
goods and services to the historical agency and museum field. Pub-
lished in a 695-page paperbound edition, it sells for $64.95, $58.45
to AASLH members. Orders for the directory, including the correct

The Policy Research Institute of the University of Texas at Austin
recently published A Bibliography of Texas Government and Politics,
compiled by Arnold Fleischmann, Elliott Manley Banks, Richard H.
Kraemer, and Allen Kupetz. The bibliography, the first publication of
its kind in more than twenty years, contains the titles of more than
1,600o books, articles, and other resources. It also includes a unique re-
search guide that, in the words of the authors, "will equip students,
teachers, journalists, organizations, public servants, and concerned citi-
zens with the tools to examine the national, state, and local actions that
affect Texas."
The work sells for $12 with discounts of to percent to libraries and
state agencies, 40 percent to bookstores and wholesalers, and 50 per-
cent on any order of ten or more. Prepaid orders should include $1.50
postage and handling for the first copy and $.50 for each additional
copy. Texas residents should add 5.125 percent sales tax.
