Members, Sustaining Members, Patrons, or Corporation Mem-
bers.
(d) Honorary Life Members. Persons who have rendered eminent
service to Texas or the Association may be elected Honorary Life
Members by the Executive Council.
ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS: The officers of the Association shall be a
President, a First Vice-President who shall be President-Designate, a Second
Vice-President who shall be First Vice-President-Designate, and a Director.
The officers shall hold office for the term of one year beginning im-
mediately following the annual business meeting. The First Vice-President
shall be elected annually as provided herein and at the expiration of his
term of office he shall succeed to the office of President. The Second Vice-
President shall likewise be elected annually and at the expiration of his
term of office he shall succeed to the office of First Vice-President.
Should the office of President, for any reason, become vacant, the First
Vice-President shall succeed forthwith to the office of President and shall
fill the unexpired term as well as the term for which he was originally
designated, as President.
The Executive Council shall be empowered to fill vacancies in all
offices under circumstances not covered by the provisions hereof.
Prior to the conclusion of his term of office the President of the Asso-
ciation shall name the chairman and four other members to the Committee
on Nominations, two from the Executive Council and two from the general
membership. The names of the members of this committee shall be an-
nounced at the annual business meeting so that members of the Association
can make recommendations to the committee during the year. The Com-
mittee on Nominations shall make nominations for the officers and the
Executive Council.
The Executive Council shall appoint the Director and such other offi-
cers as it may from time to time determine are needed by the Association.
The Director shall be a member of the faculty or staff of The University
of Texas at Austin, and shall be the representative of the Executive Council,
and Editor of the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, and have general
charge of all Association affairs.
ARTICLE V. EXECUTIVE COUNCIL: The affairs of the Association
shall be administered by the Executive Council which shall consist of the
President, the Vice-Presidents, the three most immediate Past-Presidents,
and eight members. Members shall be elected at the Executive Council and
the annual meeting of the Association for terms of three years.358
