Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Meetings
The Association's annual meeting will be held March 6-8, 1975, in
Austin. Fifteen sessions will deal with such topics as women in Texas, the
law and historic preservation, boom towns, Texas labor, the natural sciences
in Texas, and views of Mexican independence in Texas. Luncheon speakers
will be William H. Leckie, of the University of Toledo, on Friday, and
James Kraft, of the National Endowment for the Humanities, on Saturday.
Association president Ralph A. Wooster will deliver the dinner address
Friday.
The 1975 auction of Texana will be dedicated to Fred R. Cotten who
died this past September. Cotten, a fellow and long-term member of the
Association, served as president from I962-1964. The auction is a major
attraction of the annual meeting and the income is used to help support
the Association's many activities. We need Texana-books, paintings,
sculptures--for this year's auction. The names of donors of $50 or more of
Texana to the auction (the $50 will be based on the amount the gifts bring
at the auction and could be made up of from one to five items) will be
published in the April issue of the Quarterly. The Texana must be re-
ceived by February 20o, 1975, to be included in this year's auction. Check
your library and send the Association some fine Texana for the annual
meeting.
Members will vote on a revised' constitution at the business session of
the annual meeting. The proposed constitution is published in this issue
under the "Affairs of the Association" (see pages 357-359).
The tenth Annual Walter Prescott Webb Memorial Lectures will be de-
voted to Professor Webb and the influence of his ideas. The lectures will
be held April 3, 1975, at the University of Texas at Arlington. The pro-
gram will include papers by Professor W. Eugene Hollon, University of
Toledo; Professor W. Turrentine Jackson, University of California at Davis;
Association director Joe B. Frantz; and Professor George Wolfskill, Uni-
versity of Texas at Arlington. Those wishing further information should
contact the Webb Lecture Committee, Department of History, University
of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas 76019.
The Organization of American Historians will meet April I6-I9 in
Boston.326
