Meeting, February 28-March 2, I974. The energy crisis deterred some
members from coming to this meeting, resulting in a drop in attendance
from that in 1973, but the quality of the program and enthusiasm of par-
ticipants remained high. The program committee--Marilyn McAdams Sib-
ley, chairman; Bobby H. Johnson; Frank Smyrl; and Ronnie C. Tyler-
put together fourteen sessions at which fifty-seven scholars from forty-four
institutions participated. The highly varied sessions provided much diversity
for the 500 people who attended.
At the business meeting the following officers were elected for the year
1974-1975: president, Ralph A. Wooster; vice presidents, Billy Mac Jones
and Dan E. Kilgore. Marilyn McAdams Sibley was elected to the executive
council as a fellows' representative to fill the unexpired term of T. R.
Havins, who resigned; Nancy Nichols Barker was elected for a three-year
term as a fellows' representative; and Fred Moore was elected to a five-
year term as a members' representative.
The Fleming-Long Memorial Book Auction of Texana, named in mem-
ory of Richard T. Fleming and Walter E. Long, netted $1,746.55.
The Coral H. Tullis Memorial Award of $200 for the most outstand-
ing contribution to Texas history for the year 1972-1973 went to Henkel
Square, a restoration project at Round Top, Texas. This restoration began
about fifteen years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bybee purchased the
square and established a Texas Pioneer Arts Foundation for its preserva-
tion and restoration. Thirteen structures are now established on the square,
chosen to give a panoramic and authentic view of the life style of the
German settlers of a century or more ago. These buildings now house what
is probably the largest single collection of early Texas furniture.
The 1975 Annual Meeting will be held March 6-8, at the Driskill and
Stephen F. Austin hotels in Austin. The program committee-Sandra L.
Myres, chairman; Terry G. Jordan; James W. Pohl; Marilyn McAdams
Sibley; Chester R. Burns; Maury Darst; and Lewis L. Gould-have
planned a series of fine sessions.
The nominations committee-Dorman H. Winfrey, chairman; W. H.
Timmons; and F. Lee Lawrence-is now receiving recommendations for
nominees to serve on the executive council in place of those whose terms
will expire in I975. Anyone wishing to make suggestions for nominations
should contact a member of the committee.
MID-YEAR MEETING
