Affairs of the Association
ANNUAL MEETING
The seventy-seventh Annual Meeting was held in Austin, March 8-io,
at the Driskill and Stephen F. Austin hotels. The work of the program com-
mittee (Ronnie C. Tyler, chairman; Robert A. Calvert; James V. Reese;
Marilyn McAdams Sibley; and Robert Thonhoff) was evident in the out-
standing program they put together.
At the business meeting the following officers were elected for the year
1973-1974, president: Anne Brindley; vice presidents: Ralph A. Wooster,
Billy Mac Jones, and Dan E. Kilgore. George R. Woolfolk was elected for
a six-year term to be a members' representative on the executive council.
Wilbert H. Timmons was reelected to a three-year term as a fellows' rep-
resentative.
The book auction, named in memory of Leavitt Corning and Charles
Kinchloe Chamberlain, netted $3,466.
The 1974 Annual Meeting will be held February 28-March 2, at the
convention center in Waco. The program committee (Marilyn McAdams
Sibley, chairman; Bobby H. Johnson; Frank Smyrl; and Ronnie C. Tyler)
is planning the sessions for the meeting.
The nominations committee (Cooper K. Ragan, chairman; Randolph
Campbell; John Tod Hamner; Ben H. Procter; Ben E. Pingenot) is now
receiving recommendations for nominees to serve on the executive council
in place of those whose terms expire in 1974. Anyone wishing to make sug-
gestions for nominations should contact a member of the committee.
The Coral H. Tullis Memorial Award of $200 for the most outstanding
contribution to Texas history for 1972-1973 was awarded to E. M. (Buck)
Schiwetz for his book, The Schiwetz Legacy: An Artist's Tribute to Texas,
1910-197z.
MID-YEAR MEETING
The 1972 mid-year meeting was held at Abilene on October 27-28, in
connection with the West Texas Historical Association. Dr. Rupert N. Rich-
ardson handled the local arrangements which included a fine musical pro-
gram of frontier martial music and a mounted cavalry exhibition at old
Fort Phantom Hill. Dessamae Lorrain, Earl Green, and Dan Scurlock pre-
sented papers at the morning session. Professor Willard B. Robinson gave the
luncheon address.
The 1973 mid-year meeting will be held at Fredericksburg, October 19-163
