Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Meetings
The seventy-fourth annual meeting of the Texas State Historical
Association will be held at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel in Austin,
April 3o-May 2, 1970. Twelve sessions are planned beginning with a
Thursday evening program and concluding with the luncheon on
Saturday. The annual book auction will be held on Friday afternoon.
The American Association for State and Local History will hold its
1970 annual meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, September 23-Septem-
ber 29. Headquarters for the meeting will be at the Continental Hotel.
Accessions
The Houston Public Library has recently acquired the papers of
the late Edwin A. Bonewitz, whose research on the history of early
Houston is well known to Texas historians. The papers were a gift of
Frederick Bonewitz of Houston, and will be housed in the library's
Texas Room.
The New Mexico State Records Center and Archives, Santa Fe, has
acquired microfilms of the official records of the Historical Society of
New Mexico, which include some 2,400 pages of documents covering
the years 1859 to 1958.
The Texas A&M University Library has announced the acquisition
of the Jeff Dykes Range Livestock Collection, consisting of over four
thousand items dealing with the range livestock industry. Rare books
in the collection include Joseph Nimmo's Range and Ranch Cattle
Traffic, W. H. Jackson and S. A. Long's Texas Stock Directory, and
A Description of the Different Varieties of Oxen Common in the
British Isles, an illustrated volume published in London in 18oo, of
which there are only four known complete copies.
Fanny Kimble Wister Stokes, the daughter of Owen Wister, has
recently donated to the Archives Division of the Texas State Library544
