Cowboy Album

ERWIN E. SMITH
[Editor's Note: The photographs reproduced here were selected not
to depict just a single day in the life of the cowboy, though one might
see it that way, but for the whole mood of the early rangeland-from
wintry early mornings to rousing spring days, to summer evenings
when the work was done.]

-From the Erwin E. Smith Collection,
Library of Congress, where more than eighteen hundred plates and films
were placed in 1949 by Smith's sister, Mrs. L. M. Pettis. One hundred of
Erwin Smith's prints are on permanent display at the Texas Memorial
Museum in Austin, after having first been shown at the Texas Centennial
in 1936. Over ten thousand photographs were in Smith's collection at the
time of his death.
