All of you history aficionados are reminded that you have an oppor-
tunity to participate in a history-making annual meeting in San An-
tonio this coming May 16-18. Not only will the Association be holding
a rare meeting away from Austin, but we will be only one block from
HemisFair. David Trimble and the committee on local arrangements
in San Antonio are lining up a three-day festival in our honor. R.
Henderson Shuffler has promised to give us an insight into the his-
torical treasures of HemisFair, and David Vigness and his committee
are setting up a program designed both to edify and delight. The
Hotel Menger is holding a bloc of rooms for us in the midst of a
demand for hotel space that is unprecedented. You should make your
reservations directly with the hotel of your choice, although the
Menger will be the headquarters hotel.
Tentatively, the meeting will get under way on Thursday noon with
a business luncheon of the executive council, followed by an after-
noon of papers and a reception by the San Antonio Historical Society
and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas across the alley at the
Alamo. A program at HemisFair is in the offing for Thursday night.
Friday morning will be devoted to papers, after which we will have
our usual Friday luncheon' and business meeting. The Lone Star
Brewery people have invited us to hold the book auction at their his-
torical park that afternoon. As you know, Lone Star saved the historic
Buckhorri Saloon when it was in danger of destruction several years
ago, and have also recreated a bit of the Germanic flavor of early
Texas. Our president, Seymour V. Conner, will give the Friday night
diner address.
On Saturday morning we will again have papers, followed by a
Saturday luncheon. This year there will be no Saturday afternoon ses-
sion, in order that those who wish may take in HemisFair and the
remainder of you may get an early start home. This could very well
be a truly memorable meeting and should attract a record attendance.
On November 16 the Association, in conjunction with the Travis
County Historical Survey Committee, sponsored a marker ceremony
commemorating the late Judge Zachary Taylor Fulmore, 1846-1923-
Dorman Winfrey, State Librarian, delivered the dedicatory address;432
