motive power as well as detailed information about each class
of locomotive used on the Santa Fe and material on operation,
maintenance, and repair of the engines; there is even a section on
curious models which were never produced. For the steam en-
thusiast, this book is especially valuable since the Santa Fe de-
signed its own locomotives beginning in 1915, and after 1927
the designs were so specific that the finished product, built by
a locomotive manufacturer, was considered exclusive Santa Fe
property. In the history of railroading in Texas, the Santa Fe
railroad will take a prominent place in the text and this work
in the bibliography. DAVID B. GRACY, II
