many cases. The only loss of life on Morgan's fleet of dredges re-
sulted from the upsetting of a floating boarding house at Red
Fish Bar, with some dozen men on board, all of whom were drowned.
No man ever behaved better through such a fearful crisis than
did Capt. J. J. Atkinson. He was equal to the emergency, and de-
serves all praise for his conduct throughout the affair.
A severe attack of chills and fevers, weakness and general ex-
haustion, must be my apology for this crude and ill-digested com-
munication. I have simply endeavored to state facts in plain language.
