Mr. Rice Alvis of Haskell, Texas, passed away De-
cember 9. Among his survivors are his wife; two
sons, RICE JR., BBA '57, of Fort Worth and THOM-
AS of Abilene, who is on the faculty at H-SU; two
daughters; a sister and four brothers. One of the
brothers is JOHN ALVIS, BA '23, of Abilene.
Mr. Paul Arendall, father of MRS. ROBERT W.
THOMPSON (nee JOHNNIE ARENDALL, BA'42),
3265 Sayles, Abilene, died September 21.
MRS. CHARLES G. ATKINSON (nee COLA B.
RAMSEY, ex '25) of Route 1, Abilene, died Decem-
ber 1. Survivors are her husband of the home; two
daughters, Mrs. Bill (JANICE) Harkins, ex '48, of
Denton and Mrs. Norma Sayles of Dallas; one son,
Charles Ramsey of Abilene; three brothers, DR. M.T.
RAMSEY, DR. DAVID RAMSEY, and DR. HAL H.
RAMSEY; and two sisters, Mrs. William (NENA
KATE) Lewis of Abilene and Mrs. Woodrum of N.
Little Rock.
Mrs. J. E. Boaz, mother of EVELYN SCROGGINS,
BA '37, of Odessa, died December 5 at her ranch
home near Merkel, Texas.
MRS. J. D. BRIAN (nee MARGARET PUNDT, BS
'51) died of a heart attack September 21. She is
survived by her husband, J. D., BA '50 & ME '54,
a son and a daughter of the home, 707 Notting-
ham, Richardson, Texas 75080. Margaret was teach-
ing school at the time of her death.
Mr. Ben T. Christian of Abilene, father of MISS DO-
RA LEE CHRISTIAN, BS '59 & ME '65, 1041
Lakeside Dr., Abilene, passed away November 13.
The 11-year-old son of MR. and MRS. EARL CRAW-
FORD, BA '46, was accidentally killed September 24
in Riverside, Calif. His brother, JOHN, is currently
enrolled in H-SU. There are several other relatives
who are graduates of H-SU. Earl is associational
superintendent of missions for the Calvary-Arrow-
head Baptist Association in Riverside. Their ad-
dress there is 4117 Goodman St.
MR. ED W. DOUTHIT, pioneer Abilenian, died
September 26. He was married to the former Mary
Parramore in 1901. She died in 1964. Survivors in-
clude two daughters; Mrs. Arch (PATTI) Batjer, ex
'23, 718 Sayles, Abilene and Mrs. MARY Hunter,
ex '23, 704 Beech, Abilene.
Mrs. Odis Ellison (nee MARY OLIVE BENNETT,
BM '28 and BA '29, died October 15, 1970 in a
Galveston hospital. Her home was in Normangee,
Texas. She is survived by her husband and two
sons; also her mother, three brothers and two sisters.
One of her brothers is MAC LEON BENNETT, ex
'31.
MR. RICKEY FLEMING, ex '68, died September
28. He is survived by his wife, the former NITA
ENGLAND, ex '69.
MR. BILL FOLEY, ex '47, of Wichita Falls, Texas,
passed away November 16, 1970. Among his sur-
vivors are two brothers: C. H. FOLEY JR., BA '40,
6004 Vernon, Lubbock; and ROBERT (BOB) FO-
LEY, BA '43, 1809 Speedway, Wichita Falls.
Mrs. Phil Ford Sr., mother of ROBERT FORD, ex
'41, of Abilene, died October 17.
Mr. Roger Q. Garrett Sr. of Anson died November
15. Survivors are his wife, the former JUANETA
CRANSTON, ex '13; two sons; and one daughter,
Mrs. Herbert (LIDDELL) Kennedy, BS '44, of Ro-
tan, Texas.
MR. ROBERT T. GREGG, ex '06, of Abilene, died
November 6, 1970. Among his survivors is a daugh-
ter, Mrs. H. L. (JUNE) Cooke, ex '43, 4150 Hart-
ford, Abilene and a sister, MISS ANNIE GREGG,
ex '13, of Abilene Towers, Abilene.
CAPT. TERRY HALE, BA '68, was killed in action
in Vietnam November 3, 1970. He had been in Viet-
nam seven months serving in the San Giang District
of Dinh Tuong Province. He is survived by his wife,
the former LINDA STEIN, ex '68, of 3419 E. Hub-
bell, Phoenix, Ariz.; a two-month old daughter Sher-
ry; his mother, Mrs. Mary Frances Campbell of

Irving; a sister, Mrs. Baugh (HELEN) Lewis, ex
'50, of San Angelo; a brother, PRESTON DANNY
HALE, BA '52, of Dallas. His father preceded him
in death. The family requests that remembrances ye
sent to H-SU to purchase psychology and sociology

CLEDDIE HALL, ex '37, of Corpus Christi, died
December 13. He was in a car accident in San An-
tonio and died in the hospital there. He is survived
by his wife and two daughters.
Mrs. L. P. Henslee (nee ZORA CARTER, ex '12)
died November 7 in Abilene. Survivors are one son,
COL. LEM PAUL HENSLEE, BA '40, U.S. Air
Force, Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, MRS. ACE G.
(ZOANN) POWERS, ex '48, 2308 Dietz Pi., N.W.,
Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also, her granddaugh-
ter, KAREN POWERS, and grandson, DOUG POW-
ERS are currently enrolled in H-SU.
Mrs. Evanah Zula Hord died October 14 in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, W. P. and
BOBBY HORD, BBA '53, 4605 Sabelle Ln., Fort
Worth; a daughter, Mrs. Don (CAROLYN SUE)
Terrell, ex '62, 1215 Canyon Ridge, San Antonio.
REV. W. H. HUGHES, BA '25, Pastor Emeritus of
First Baptist Church, Levelland, Texas, passed away
August 21, 1970. He was the first full-time pastor of
the church. He is survived by his wife, the former
CYNTHIA EVANS, BA '25, 117 5th St., Levelland.
Mr. Willard Jones of Snyder passed away September
19. He is survived by his wife; ason, JUNE JONES,
ex '44, 532 So. 11th, Abilene; and a daughter, Mrs.
Dick Rollins (nee ANNETTA JEANNE JONES),
BS '69, 4126 Monticello Dr., Abilene.
Mr. O. C. Karkalits, father of REV. W. R. KARKA-
LITS, BA '49, died in October. Rev. Karkalits and
his wife, the former BETTY JO WILLIS, BS '50,
live at 512 Ridge Road, Grapevine.
MR. WILLIAM TANDY LEGG, BA '29, Hereford,
Texas, died September 30. He is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Ed (MARILYN) Ransom, BS '58,
9510 Meadowvale, Houston, and MARLENE LEGG,
BS '60, 3317 S. Eddy, Amarillo; and one son, BILL
LEGG, BS '63, of Route 1, Larkspur, Colo.
Mr. B. Y. Lenoir, father of MRS. KENNETH W.
(DONNA) BURNAM, BS '66 & ME '67, 13211
Chico Rd. NE, Albuquerque, N. M., died November
16 in Snyder.
DR. S. VERNON McCASLAND, BA '18, a retired
professor of religion at the University of Virginia,
died November 15. He began his teaching career in
public schools in Texas in 1914. Included in his
survivors is a brother, MURL McCASLAND, 2416
Ong, Amarillo. Dr. McCasland was making his
home in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the time of his
death.
MR. JOE McCLUSKEY, ex '29, a South Bend ranch-
er, died October 26. Among his survivors is a broth-
er, LORENZO McCLUSKEY, ex '26, South Bend,
Texas.
Mrs. Annie J. McPherson died September 18 in Abi-
lene. Included in her survivors are two stepdaugh-
ters: MISS THELMA McPHERSON, BA '30 & MA
'48, 1134 Amarillo, Abilene, and Mrs. Ernest (LETA)
Harber, BA '24 & MA '44, 2033 Sylvan, Abilene.
Mrs. Minnie Lou McQuary died November 4 at her
home, 2126 Grape, Abilene. Survivors include four
daughters, Mrs. A. C. (RENA) Elliott, BM '30 &
MA '45, of Sonora, Mary McQuary of the home,
Mrs. H. S. (FAYE) LeCrone, BA '32, and Mrs. R.P.
(BARBARA) Murphy, BA '47, both of Tulsa, Okla.;
two sons, W. A., BA '37, of Burlington, Vermont,
and E. L. of San Louis Obispo, Calif.
MISS MARY ELIZABETH MATHIS, ex '70, of
Abilene died October 8. She is survived by her par-
ents, MR. and MRS. ELVIN MATHIS, MA '50,
2701 S. 40th, Abilene.
TEX BEATY ROGERS, BBA '67, died September
27 in Abilene. He is survived by his wife, the for-
mer DOROTHY THOMPSON, BBA '70. Dorothy
has been working in the Development Office on the
campus but will be teaching school in Aspermont,
beginning with the next term of school.

Mrs. Arthur (Nancy) Sears of Abilene and a mem-

died October 3. Survivors include a son, LANCE

D. G. (VIVIAN) Streater, ex '28, of Lakq Chadle ,
'La., Mrs. J. C. (Molly) Bye of Garland, Mrs. T. J.
(BILLYE) Barlow, ex '41, of Houston, Mrs. Ral-
eigh (MARGARET) Brown, ex '42, of Abilene, and
Mrs. Pat (MARGIE) Wells, ex '42, of Abilene.
Mr. Oliver L. Simpson, father of Mrs. F. N. FRED-
DIE) Bates, BS '67, 700 Highway 121A, #419,
Hurst, Texas, died November 16 in Anson, Texas.
MR. JOHN E. SHIPP, ex '64, died October 18. He
is survived by his wife,theformer VIRGINIA THOM-
AS, ex '64, 4501 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, Arizona
85281, and two daughters.
Mrs. Robert (Bertha Josephine Barrow) Steakley,
a benefactor of Hardin-Simmons University, died
September 26 in Odessa. Among survivors are her
husband; three daughters, Mrs. BOBBIE Tutt, ex
'63, of Austin, Mrs. DORA McCrury, ex '63, of
Corpus Christi and Mrs. Nora Whorton of Rule; a
son, Robert Ernest Steakley of Odessa. The Steakley
Room of H-SU's Moody Center has been named in
honor of the family because of their assistance in
providing furnishings for the room.
Mrs. W. B. Wallis (nee MARY GREGG), ex '06,
passed away July 6. Among her survivors is a sis-
ter, MISS ANNIE GREGG, ex '13, Abilene Tower
Apts., Abilene.
MR. LYNN M. WEST, ex '25, who lived near Ta-
hoka, Texas, in Lynn County, died November 25.
He will long be remembered for his support of dif-
ferent Children's Homes although he never married.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Herbert Hunt (nee
VEDA WEST), ex '25, of Claude, Texas.
MRS. A. H. WILLIAMS, 1121 Vine, Abilene, died
October 1. She is survived by her husband, a 1949
graduate of H-SU: a son, Don, of the home, and
other relatives.
Mrs. W. E. (Ava Rilla) Beasley of Abilene died De-
cember 28. Among her survivors is a stepdaughter,
Mrs. J. C. Ball (nee FERN ESTELLE BEASLEY,
BA '23) of Abilene; a stepson, CLYDE T. BEAS-
LEY, BA '25, of Abilene; a brother, BURL KING,
BA '28, of Abilene; a sister. MISS MAUDE KING,
BA '23, of Abilene and formerly English professor
at H-SU; and several nieces and a nephew attended
H-SU. She is also survived by other sisters and a
brother that didn't attend H-SU.
Mr. Delmer W. Haralson of Abilene died December
29. Survivors include his wife, former ADAH BAR-
BER, BA '28, of 3316 S. 21st, Abilene; three sons,
HAL HARALSON, BA '57, of Austin, DALE HAR-
ALSON, BBA '59. of Tucson, Ariz., and KEN
HARALSON, ex '66, of Colorado Springs, Colo.;
three sisters, Mrs. C. E. (OPAL) Ellis, ex '28, Abi-
lene, Mrs. J. T. (BERNICE) Davis, ex '22, of Hous-
ton, and Mrs. Jessie Davis of Rule; and four grand-
children.
Mrs. J. B. Paylor (nee LOUIE BARTON, BA '30
and BM '30) of Clyde, Texas, passed away Decem-
ber 23. Among her survivors are her husband and
two sons, JOHN W. PAYLOR, BS '66, of Munday,
Texas, and Jim of the home.
MR. ERNEST E. REYNOLDS, ex '11, of Abilene
died December 25. Survivors include one son, ER-
NEST JR., ex '32, of El Paso, and one daughter,
Mrs. O. J. (MARTHA JEANNE) Hamilton, ex '33,
of Abilene; two brothers, VIRGIL, ex '13, of Dallas,
and MANLEY, ex '29, of Bandera.
DR. D. V. RODGERS, ex '33, prominent Eastland
county physician, was killed in a car accident Jan-
uary 3, 1971.
Tamara Lynn Thaxton, 16, daughter of MR. and
MRS. WARREN THAXTON, BS '55, (nee LAURA
McBETH, BS '51 and ME '68), of 4066 Brookhol-
low, Abilene, died December 17, after being in ill
health for the past two years. She is also survived
by two brothers, Eric and Kirk, both of the home.
MISS LOUISE TOOMBS, BA '38, of 841 Poplar,
Abilene, died December 24 from burns received in
an accident in her home the day before. In addition
to her parents she is survived by one brother, HU-
BERT TOOMBS, BA '36, 3502 S. 20th, Abilene.
The infant son of MR. and MRS. BOBBY J. WHISEN-
HUNT, ex '57, of 685 Crestwood, Abilene, was
stillborn December 27. Survivors besides the parents
include one sister, Kelli Kai of the home, and grand-
parents.        "-
MRS. LUTHER E. RECTOR, longtime resident of
McCaulley, Texas, died December 18. She hadtaught
school in McCaulley 24 years.
Mr. Arthur C. Braune of View died January 4. He is

survived by his wife; two sons, J. C., ex '61, of
Hico, Texas, and Alvin of Abilene; one daughter,
Mrs. H. M. Beaird of View; one brother; two sisters,
Mrs. ERNAGalle,ex '16, of View, and Mrs. OTILLIE
McGehee, ex '17, of Wickenburg, Ariz.
Several members of the faculty and staff at H-SU
have lost loved ones recently: The mother of Sgt.
A. L. Mosley, the father of I)r. Andy Patterson, the
father of Dr. Clyde Hurst, the brother of Mrs. Bill
(Wanda) Thweatt, the father of Mr. Tom Alvis, the
nephew of Dr. Lindell Harris, and the sister of Mrs.
Zula Gilliam, longtime employee of H-SU who is
now retired.
