Onis Crawford, ex '40, has resigned
as manager of the Chamber of Com-
merce in Merkel, Texas, to become
manager of the Dalhart C. of C. ef-
fective May 1. He and Mrs. Craw-
ford have three children.
Professor Morrison of our music
department has received a copy of
"The Trumpet Shall Sound"-Edi-
tion Musicus Inc.-N. Y. written by
Tom Swayzee, BM '42. Tom went on
to graduate from Northwestern Uni-
versity in Evanston, Ill., and since
that time has been prominent in
building bands throughout Arkansas
and Tennessee. He is now director
of band at the high school in Mun-
ford, Tennessee and his address is
Box 375.
Gerald Palmer, BA '47, Trinidad,
Colorado, has been elected director
of Spanish and Indian missions in
New Mexico. Gerald was formerly
a missionary in northern New Mex-
ico for nine years and has been pas-
tor in Trinidad for a year.
Two former H-SU students who
are presently enrolled at Golden
Gate Seminary, Mr. and Mrs. James
M. Goodner (nee Helen Sybil Gard-
ner, BA '48), ex '48, have been ap-
pointed as direct missionaries in the
Bay Area. They are pioneering the
program for Indians re-settled in
the San Francisco Bay region.
Ed E. Powell, BA '32, former sher-
iff of Taylor County, Abilene, has
taken the post of instructor with the
Police Training Department, a
branch of the Engineering Extension
Service of Texas A. & M. College.
While a student at H-SU, Powell
studied economics, sociology and
business administration an d has
served as principal, athletic director
and teacher of mathematics in va-
rious Texas schools. He then serv-
ed as a Texas Highway Patrolman
for 15 years, followed by two terms
in the sheriff's office.
Winner of the West Texas Region
finals of the Mrs. America contest
is H-SU ex's wife, Mrs. James Frank
Cadenhead of Haskell, Texas. Frank
is a Haskell physician having re-
ceived his BA degree from Hardin-
Simmons in 1942.,.9ctj...
Charlie C. Thompson, ex '19, of
Colorado City, Texas-with a gov-
ernor's tribute-stepped down April
6 as chairman of the board of di-
rectors of Texas Technological Col-
lege, Lubbock. He had served as a
member for over 19 years.
A coffee honoring a former Abi-
lenian and H-SU ex was hosted
April 6 by Mrs. T. E. Brownlee (nee
Lela Cowden), ex '17. The honoree
was Mrs. A. M. Girand (nee Ruby
Mae Pegues), ex '07, and guests were
former schoolmates at Hardin-Sim-
mons and other long-time friends.
Among them Mrs. C. C. Myatt (nee
Jodie Manly), ex '02, Mrs. M. B.
Hanks (nee Eva May Hollis), BL '02,
and Mrs. Cross D. Payton (nee Car-
rie Cowden), ex '08, attended.
Mr. A. C. Greene, husband of the
former Betty Dozier, BA '49, has
been named as instructor in jour-
nalism following the appointment of
Leo Lambert to director of public
information. Greene will teach three
classes. lie received his BA degree
from ACC in 1948 and has been a
member of the Abilene Reporter-
News staff and at present is the
owner of the A. C. Greene Book-
store.
Rev. and Mrs. Grady N. Allison
(nee Glorieta Travis, ex '51), BA '49,
have moved from Hereford to Mun-
day, Texas, recently where he will
be pastor of the Munday Baptist
Church. Grady received his degree
from Southwestern Seminary in Fort
Worth in 1954 and has pastored
churches in Eastland County, Steph-
ens County, Denton County, Taylor
County and First Baptist Church in
Grandfalls. The couple has two chil-
dren.
Two former baton twirlers who
have been featured with the Cow-
boy Band are now instructors of the
art. Mrs. Norma Kniffen Dozier, BA
'51, is teaching in Anson, Texas, and
two of her students have been named
to "Who's Who in Baton Twirling"
this year. Opening a studio in Here-
ford. Texas, Mrs. Alex Schroeter
(nee Naomi Zarbock), BA '55, will
offer instruction in all phases of
Swirling.
