Founders' Day Fete
The annual Founders' Day, on Mon-
day, April 17, will be the occasion
this year, as usual, for gathering of
Hardin-Simmons Exes in a variety of
church, party or informal meetings
from coast to coast.
The occasion, birth date of Dr.
James B. Simmons, New York edu-
cator and pastor whose gifts topped
the list of donors in 1891 at the found-
ing of H-SU, is the forty-eighth year
of Hardin-Simmons history.
In two more years, in 1941, H-SU
will be observing its Golden Jubilee
anniversary.
This year, Mrs. H. A. Pender, presi-
dent of the Ex-Students' Association,
is receiving many inquiries about,
and reports much interest in the birth-
day.
Campus observance will be appro-
priate. The night of April 17, there
will be a dinner session in the cafe-
teria. Lacy Beckham, Abilene presi-
dent, is directing plans for this, and
all Taylor county alumni, and ex-stu-
dents in surrounding towns not plan-
ning other observance, are invited.
In Dallas, Raymond Foy and C. M.
Johnson, prime movers in the recent
alumni banquet there, have volunteer-
ed to direct Founders' Day arrange-
ments. In Fort Worth, Dorothy Com-
pere Woodfin, has volunteered, and
from Mexia Rev. E. D. Dunlap, until
recently of Sweetwater, writes he'll
do the same.
Reports of Founders' Day gather-
ings of all sorts are invited, that they
may be acknowledged in future edi-
tions of the Alumni Roundup.
The suggested program for Found-
ers' Day is this one: School Anthem.
