WESLEY ITEMS.
After a series of entertain-
ments given to visitors in our
neighborhood we have fallen in-
to the quiet routine of country
life until the festivities of the
"Fourth" shall call us again to
join the gay circles.
Our "select few" are going to
take Lyons by storm on the
"third" and anticipate a grand
fime as we know the great
hearted people of Lyons of old
Your correspondent appreci
ates the copy of the "Lyons
Ledger" received and wishes the
vountr iournal everv success. It
has some subscribers here and
we pronounce it next to the
Brenham Banner and don't
think a higher compliment could
be paid it than to be compared to
our old county paper.
Mrs. McDonough of Ocker
accompanied by her daughter
Miss Ada' has been visiting her
sister Mrs. Martha "Woods at her
old family home. Miss Ada is
one of the most charming young
ladies it has ever been our lot to
meet and it was with many re-
grets we saw her take her de
parture. Our "Boys" have
apparantly lost all interest in life
since Miss Ada left us.
Mr. Ben Norman of Edgar was
called to the bedside of his sick
brother Willie who has been
quite law. Mr. Norman is
thinking of making his home
with us in the near future; he is
a young man of sterling qualities
and will be gladly welcomed in
our midst.
Miss Eddie Bowers has re
turned home to spend vacation
with us.
Misses Ella Harris and Mabel
Allcorn and Mrs. Dr. Harris have
been the guests of Mrs. Emily
Whitener of Burton. They have
much to say of Mrs. Whitener's
hospitality and of the wonderful
musical treat they enjoyed.
The performers were Messrs.
Selonke and Folmer of Chicago
who are endowed with rare
musical talents that have been
carefully cultivated until music
performed by these young gentle-
men will linger in one's memory
until the end of time.
Quite a sensation was caused-l
a few days since at the Green
vine church when an elopement
took place. The young couple
Miss Rost and Mr. Heilig
quietly left the chuach unob-
served but just as they started
off the ycung lady's father dis-
covered that she was missing
and followed in hot pursuit but
failed to overtake them. He has
come to the conclusion that love
will have its way. .
Mrs. Will Woods has been
quite sick but is now convales-
cent. Dr. Knolle attending
physician. Dr. Knolle has an
extensive practice is family
physician q six hundred families
and has won the confidence of
all.
Farmers are jubilant over their
prospects. The cotton and corn
crop will be far superior to that
of last year and the melon crop
is abundant.
Mrs. Dr. Young and little sons
John and Robert are the guests
of Mrs. B. ri. Allcorn.
"Jim."
Evangelical Lutheran College.
The commencement exercises
-of the Evangelical Lutheran col-
lege were held at Germania hall
Tuesday evening. A very large
audience attended the exercises
and enjoyed the excellent pro-
gram. Five diplomas one from
the normal and four from the
commercial departments -were
conferred the graduates being
Misses Elizabeth Hartmann and
Fredia Bartens and Messrs
Henry Schmidt Henry Hodde
and John Kamas.
A wedding of considerable lo-
t:al interest occurred at Hemp-
stead Tuesday morning the con-
tracting parties being Miss
Marium Petty of Hempstead and
Mr. R. M. Campbell city attor-
ney of Cameron. The bride is a
niece of Dr. Young and Mr.
Thomas Young of this city. The
bridal party passed through the
city on the noon Central en route
to Cameron by the way of Gid-dings.
