Astronomers lately observed by
photography a solar disturbance
lasting fifteen minutes in which va-
pors ascended to a distance of 80000
miles the effect being attributed to
a meteoric fall upon tho sun. Prof.

possess a marked individuality. Not
long ago asinglo hair the evidence
in a murder case was shown Dr.
Jeserich with the request that he

head of the supposed murderes
whoso hair was of the same color.
After examination the specialist de
cided that it was sufficiently unlike
those of the suspected man to acquit
him. The real murderer was subse
quently captured and his hairs were
found to be identical in character
with the one first examined.
ZOOLOGY IX LEGAL MEDICINE.
A curious application of zoological
facts is given by M. Fallot of Mar-
seilles. Last June some fishermen
discovered in the harber of Marseilles
a floating body in an advanced stage
of decomposition. The tissues pre
sen ted the transformation known as
saponification and with the peculiar
appearance of tho skin indicated ac
cording to standard medical au
thority that the body had not laid in
the water more than four months
and a half. The clothing yet clung
to the body however and was
coverpd with barnacles. These were
found to be of two successive
generations and as they are known
to fix themselves to floating objects
during April and May it was con-
cluded that the body had been m the
water at least thirteen months-
