but the buffalo, deer, and wild turkey when meal was made at home with a [ ] and marter of how all the men dressed in buck skin, and the women went clad in the homespun of the good old old time when all was free and easy, when every door stood wide open as his heart, when lock bolts and bars were unknown. One of the man's [featurs] of the picnic yesterday was that [mathemical] [ ] by our friend R.P. Whiteaker. He certainly understands that branch of the sciences as well as that of calling the attention of the crowd to the good things which he was prepared to furnish to the [ ]. In a sweet and [ ] strain he spoke of the ice coolness of his cream and lemonade and the delicate flavor of his candies, the strength of coffee, the whiteness of his bread, the soundness of his cooked meats, and the general excellence of his [ ]. Verily we thank that Whiteaker was intended by nature for an auctioneer.
{Old Settlers Last Night}
There was a large crowd assembled at the picnic grounds, last night to hear [col.] Parker who had promised a [houmous] speech but he did not put in his appearance.
Justice Wills apologized for him and made quick and entertaining talk, Jesse [Soviny], Col. [Bith] Christian, Rev. John Conley, [Capn.] Patty, T.J. [Croaks], put in some remarks to fill out the time. The dancing and [ ] with the young ladies and gents made up the entertainment for the evening.
{Third Day}
The old settlers association met yesterday morning at 9 a.m. and the following of officers were elected for the ensuing year.
